I thought I’d do a little introduction as I finishing up school! Hello and welcome! I’m Avery Helmer—an illustrator, pattern lover, and all-around creative spirit.
I’m currently studying Illustration for Surface Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design, where I get to bring my love for all things nature, cute, and colorful to life. My work is often playful, always heartfelt, and deeply inspired by the world around me.
I have a special place in my heart for traditional media like gouache and watercolor, but, I’ve been exploring the exciting possibilities of digital tools, blending the old with the new to tell personal and vibrant visual stories.
A few fun facts about me: I’m a dedicated dog lover, a self-proclaimed coffee connoisseur, and a guitar player with a soft spot for acoustic melodies. I’m 22 years old and have called many places home—North Carolina, California, Utah, Sydney (Australia!), and now Savannah, GA. Each of these places has left a mark on me, and I often weave those memories—especially my seven magical years in Sydney—into the patterns and illustrations I create.
Nature, music, and a sense of adventure are always close by in my work. I aim to create pieces that not only reflect my own journey but also spark a little joy in yours.

I’m sure many of you know that I moved to Dallas Texas, in October! I never got around to posting this collection I made last year!

Western Whimsy, a partyware collection inspired by the western/cowboy trend. Last week, I went to a texas tulip farm and it reminded me of this pattern. Part of my final portfolio class, I had the opportunity to paint another of my page spread from my children’s book ”Home”, that I wrote back in the fall. I hope to finish it soon!

This spread was a special one to paint; I can still remember the day I jumped into the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Queensland Australia. A memory I will cherish forever and ever.

One of my favorite pattern collections done so far! This was a home decor collection inspired by simplicity and geometry. It was a fun challenge to combine my hand painted florals into symmetry and geometrical patterns!

The home decor industry in surface design is huge and I can’t wait to start designing as an intern at Loloi Rugs.

My stationery collection earlier from the quarter inspired by summer berries and florals! Loved doing this one.

I am so happy to announce that I will be joining Loloi Rugs as a Textile product development Intern in DALLAS Texas this summer! I want to thank my family for their never-ending support and love, especially my parents, @brigettehelmer & @garrettsydney They are the ones who allowed me to chase my dreams. I thank my friends who have helped me along the way, always encouraging me to be myself and find joy in the process. Most importantly, I want to express my gratitude towards each and every one of my dear SCAD Professors who have been there every step of the way. Thank you for giving me the space to work hard and push me into the artist I am today.

My last SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival as a SCAD Bee was truly one to remember. Winning first place with my best friends in the group category was an honor and something I will remember forever! Thank you @scaddotedu !

There is so much talent at this school and I have had the best 4 years, little Avery would never believe where we are now and where we are going, and who we have met!

My lovely parents @brigettehelmer @garrettsydney came down with manly and we had a wonderful time. They have supported me throughout my creative journey and have shaped me into the person I am today. I can’t wait for what’s next for me, but I know Savannah will always have my heart.

Had an absolute blast at this year’s SCAD Illustration Expo and Art Directors Week! I had an amazing time tabling with @likelyleck! Thank you everyone who came out to support, it means the world to me.

It’s always a pleasure to connect with industry professionals and creative directors. They are such an inspiration. It’s bittersweet thinking that it’s all coming to an end soon. Scary but exciting. I’ve got some new work to share that I’ll post soon!

I’ve got a lot of goodies left from the expo, dm if you are interested in stickers, greeting cards, journals, and prints!

Realized I never got around to posting this one! After I did my Savannah Map, I had a lot of people request a Raleigh one! It was very popular in my markets and made great gifts for Christmas! I even gave one to my favorite cafe, Sola!
