POSTS STORIES REELS

Hello

So I guess it's been a while since I posted on here. But I just wanted to touch base with a general update.

Last year I took time off from podcasting as I was focusing more on my daughter Izzy finishing nursery and starting primary school, DIY overhauling at home, and my work as the founder of @weareherescot and a few other things on @bigupthedeen front as well.

Life can at times throw you some unexpected curve balls out with your control, and the world can often feel like a very unpleasant place. However I'm lucky to have my amazing family, colleagues, and great friends in my life that keep me motivated and inspired. Next month will mark 3 years that I left my career in Social Work.

I'm glad that I made this decision back in 2023. It's allowed me to still have an advocacy role in everything I've been doing under the @weareherescot umbrella supporting Black and Global Majority artists and creatives across Scotland, which is something that I'm very passionate about especially as the organisation will be 5 years old this September 🎉👏🏿

I'll be back at some point this year with new conversations I promise, as long as I'm not taking on numerous projects 😅

Who knew that starting a podcast in 2017 would lead to so many conversations, new friendships and opportunities. Never give up on your dreams, take the time to celebrate who you are and what you're capable of and are achieving, allow yourself to break away from the notion that if your not always posting on social media then you're efforts in anything you're doing isn't relevant ✌🏿☮️ ❤️ by @creativemepodcast

🗣️ Hello so it's been a year of no podcasts 😅 as I've been busy on my We Are Here Scotland duties, DIY projects at home, my daughter starting school in August 🥹 a minor operation that didn't go as planned, and just being disorganised in general.

But thought I'd keep with the tradition of some sorts and collate the collection of Christmas Playlists that I started in 2021 into one huge playlist. An eclectic mix of funk, soul, blues, reggae, and alternative Christmas songs for you all to listen to whatever you're doing this time of year.

Hopefully I can get in the studio space to record an end of year reflection episode as it's been an eventful 2024 so far ❤️🎅🏿🎄 by @creativemepodcast

2023 has been a year full of changes for me. Some of you may know that in May of this year I left my 10 and a half year career in Social Work to step into the creative freelance world and dedicate my time to develop and grow We Are Here Scotland.

I'm not going to lie leaving a job that had security in this financial climate was hard. I enjoyed working with the young people and families, me and my colleagues supported. But I knew deep down it was time for a change and to explore this new path I have created for myself, which I'm still figuring out from time to time, hence why I only recorded three conversations this year. But it's been great to share the stories of @rudykanhye
@mahinhussainaccessories and @joseph_morgan_ceramics

One thing that I like about Aberdeen is that although I'm not from here, the people who I've encountered over the years whether that be through the podcast, Big Up The Deen, or any other project have given me the time of day. And that truly means a lot to me. I'm looking forward to what 2024 will bring I'll keep on using this platform as a means of amplifying others in the arts and creative communities in Aberdeen and further afield, and highlighting the challenges faced by Global Majority communities as much as possible 🇵🇸🕊️

Thank you for supporting my podcast over the past six years I wish you all the best for 2024, keep creating, keep on doing what makes you happy, create your own spaces, and embrace new opportunities whenever you can. See you on the other side. by @creativemepodcast

We’re so grateful to everyone who has donated, shared and offered their support for the Aberdeen Christmas Dinner, as you’re helping us create a warm, welcoming Christmas Day for care-experienced young people aged 18 to 25, with good food, thoughtful gifts and space to relax and celebrate together.

We still need your help to make it happen, and any amount you can give will help cover the costs of the day. If you’re not able to donate, sharing this post with friends, family, colleagues and local businesses makes a real difference too.

July, has seen less time spent in the Deen. And more time focused on loved ones, work, future intentions and some moments of rest.

Right now it feels like the world is in a constant loop of unrest and uncertainty. So I'm looking forward to some moments of escapism ❤️ by @creativemepodcast

What makes a city’s past, and how do you represent it? How do you engage with a controversial heritage without rewriting history? And what is the place for museums going forward?

Join us for a panel discussion featuring ‘Creative Me’ podcast host and We Are Here Scotland founder Ica Headlam, with Ross McLennan, History Curator at Aberdeen Archives, Galleries and Museums, and Dr Abeer Eladany Curatorial Assistant in The University of Aberdeen’s special collections, who was also part of the Empire, Slavery & Scotland’s Museums steering group.

Drawing on their experiences with the Aberdeen’s institutions and curatorial landscape, they will discuss by whom, why and how our cultural landscape is shaped — but also the challenges that rise from confronting how past and present interact, and the possibilities for the future.
