Meet Latifah Al-Hazza

Latifah embarked on her first international trip at three months old, has lived in four countries, and has visited five continents and over 80 countries. She swam with Amazonian Candiru fish in Peru, contracted Dengue fever in Puerto Rico, fell on top of a colony of fire ants on Mt. Kilimanjaro, and experienced a hotel lockdown for bomb threats in Taiwan. Latifah graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a bachelor’s in broadcast journalism and holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Southern California. She traveled to Turkey for an international reporting class in college, which later won her an Emmy for her reporting skills. Latifah’s work has been featured in Vogue Arabia, Conde Nast Traveler, National Geographic, Travel + Leisure, Architectural Digest, CNN Travel, The New York Times, Forbes and more. She also worked as an editorial assistant for CNN Travel and a social media manager for Frommer’s Travel Guides.

LG Shaw @l_g_ says he was born onto a surfboard–sort of. As founders of Wave Riding Vehicles (WRV), his parents were uniquely guided by the ocean’s currents. Today, as the second-generation leader of the almost 60-year-old surf retailer headquartered in Virginia Beach’s ViBe Creative District, LG has been riding the swell of entrepreneurship, creativity and community.

Traveling the world, LG encountered different cultures and people from all walks of life; the surf, he says, became common ground and a trusted equalizer. Showing up with the right attitude provided acceptance and a sense of belonging wherever he went.

“Creativity and self-expression are the undercurrent of the surf community. There’s something creative about being out on the water, embracing the flow and expressing yourself… Not to mention, surfboard making is rooted in artistry and self-expression.”
