Afrogrunge Turns Upcycling Into a Community Practice

Afrogrunge recently hosted an up-cycling tote bag workshop that felt less like a class and more like a shared experience. Working with discarded fabrics, participants were guided through the process of transforming waste into functional tote bags and adopting a sustainable lifestyle.

What stood out was how approachable the topic of sustainability became. The space allowed people to exchange ideas, question their relationship with fast fashion, and learn from one another in a way that felt open and inclusive.

By the end of the session, everyone left with a handmade tote bag, but the real takeaway was the sense of connection. The workshop highlighted how creative spaces can encourage sustainable thinking, not through instruction, but through participation. Afrogrunge continues to show that up-cycling can be both a creative practice and a tool for building community.
