Why it’s actually worth investing in working with an Interior Designer. And yes - I mean investing.

Contrary to popular belief, good interior design isn’t about turning your home into some ultra-modern showroom that no one actually lives in. It’s about creating a space that feels considered, functions properly & stays aligned with your lifestyle, priorities and budget. Sometimes that means knowing where to spend a little more and where not to waste money at all.

The goal isn’t creating a “perfect” home. It’s having a plan, a direction to follow & making sure your home actually works for you aesthetically & practically.

So everything flows. And you don’t have to guess your way through it.

If you’re thinking about building, renovating or need help bringing your vision together, reach out & we’ll chat.

Thought it was about time I properly (re-)introduced myself.

Hi, I’m Vanessa, the face (& force) behind Creative State Studio, based in Perth.

I got into interior design because I’ve always been drawn to spaces that just feel right the moment you walk in. The kind that make you exhale a little and feel at home without even thinking about it. I didn’t just love how they looked, I was curious about why they felt that way. (Also yes, I was definitely the kid rearranging furniture every other week to see if it would magically change my life... IYKYK.)

That curiosity turned into a real appreciation for how much a space can impact the way you live day to day.

I’ve always believed good design shouldn’t feel out of reach. It should feel considered, functional, and actually work for you. Function always comes first & then we make it pretty. That philosophy is exactly what Creative State was built on.

These days, I focus a lot on spatial planning, refining layouts, and creating homes that feel easy to live in. Interiors built around real life: pets, routines & all the day to day stuff.

Nice to meet you!

Thinking about renovating? I've got a few things I'd love you to consider before you get started.

From realistic budgets to understanding how you actually use your home, there are a few things worth figuring out before committing to expensive decisions.

A little planning early on can make a huge difference to how smoothly your renovation comes together, and potentially save you a few expensive headaches along the way. 🤎

Still a bit of a pinch-me moment sometimes, getting to do something that lets me be creative every single day.

From site visits, beautiful material selections to bringing ideas to life and seeing it all come together, there are so many little things that make me love what I do.

She's warm, she's a little moody & she's got a thing for walnut and terracotta. 🤎

A little sneak peek at some of the concepts I've been working on for a whole-home renovation for some beautiful clients.

There's been a whole lot happening behind the scenes with this one, and we're slowly bringing all the different spaces together.

Unfortunately, they’re all making some excellent points.
Decision pending.

A little morning out of the office to preview the new GlobeWest collections & naturally I left wanting approximately 47 things.

So many beautiful textures, warm timbers, soft shapes and amazing rugs. My imaginary second house is coming along beautifully 😅

Thanks for having me @globewest

This material palette deserves a moment. 🤎 And she came together as part of a recent Design Consultation.

We worked through the kitchen layout first, then pulled together a warm, cosy mix of timber, soft whites, antique brass & earthy tones to bring it all to life.

I mean, just look at her!

I think kitchen layouts are one of those things you don't really notice until they don't work.

You probably won't consciously appreciate that you can open the dishwasher without blocking the whole kitchen, or that the fridge is somewhere the kids can grab a drink without walking straight through where you're trying to cook.

But you'll definitely notice when you can't.

It's why I spend so much time thinking about the really ordinary moments when I'm looking at a kitchen plan. Where do you put the grocery bags when you come home? Where are the bins in relation to the sink? What ends up living on the benchtop because there's nowhere better for it?

They're not necessarily the exciting decisions you save to your Pinterest board, but they're the ones you'll notice every single day.

Things have been a little quiet on the socials lately. Real life & work, considerably less so. 😂

Between being knocked out by a bug for a few days, client work, sourcing, running around showrooms & just generally keeping all the plates spinning, posting somehow slipped very far down the list.

So here's a very uncurated little camera roll dump from the last couple of weeks. Nothing particularly profound, just a little glimpse of what life behind Creative State Studio actually looks like.

I've got plenty to catch you up on, but for now, proof of life will have to do!

This reel is 9 seconds long. The actual material sourcing? Usually days, if not weeks. A lot of comparing, reaching out to suppliers, checking specification sheets, making sure everything works together & keeping the budget in mind. If it was easy, everyone would do it.
