Midsummer Joy! I’ve been busy practicing with a limited palette (a very new discipline for a colour maximalist like me!). This evening I had, however, I just had to play! Poppies have self seeded around my garden and are just gorgeous right now. @schmincke_official Aquadrop Liquid Watercolour and @danielsmithartistsmaterials Primatex watercolors. #poppies , #watercolourandpen , #illustrationart , #midsummer taken in Cork, Republic of Ireland by @creativeuke

When Ukulele players are invited to play at a Star Wars festival…. I had great fun creating my Star Wars costume, and turning my walking stick into a light sabre. The atmosphere was great, the costumes amazing and the music was wonderful as 2 fab Ukulele groups came together to play at @feel_the_force_dunmanway! #starwarsillustration , #ukuleleplayer , #ukulelefestival , #starwarsfestival, #starwars #togetherwedazzle taken in Dunmanway, West Cork by @creativeuke

Sometimes, the best subject is the one right in front of us. Doing this watercolour and pen sketch let me really look at the beauty of what was right in front of me, on a slow day when I couldn’t go outside. My regular sketchbook practice has developed mindfully, drawing and sketching what is right here, in front of me. Finding joy in just this moment, just this place…. #Mindfulsketching , #dailysketching , #watercolourandpen taken in Cork, Ireland by @creativeuke

Remembering August! Sunny days, keeping up my daily sketchbook practice, sketching what is right in front of me - at home, at my local beach or in a friend’s amazing polytunnel. I’m learning that right here, right now I can find joy in the moment. Having a ready to go kit, in my everyday crossbody bag makes sketching ‘on the go’ much more likely to occur. #dailysketch #watercolourandpen #watercoloursketch by @creativeuke

Making art together, in a community based, accessible, self-directed art group ….. this is where some magic happens! I’m really looking forward to exhibiting again, this time as part of my local, dynamic Art Space. #culturenight2026 taken in Carrigaline, Ireland by @creativeuke

Like a kid in a sweet shop, I hung out with my watercolours in a friend’s Polytunnel the other day. There were lots of varieties of tomatoes starting to show some colour, but my eye was immediately drawn to the aubergines 🍆. Such stunning colours, with an armadillo like structure protecting the base of the fruit. Watercolours used: Daniel Smyth: Amethyst Genuine and Quinacridone Rose. Sennelier Watercolour : Ultramarine Deep, Burnt Sienna. On Arches 300 g/m2 Cold Pressed Watercolour paper. #dailysketches #watercolourillustration , #aubergine , #polytunnellife taken in Cork, Republic of Ireland by @creativeuke

A beautiful morning sketching in the sun with Art buddies…. And the @arttoolkit palette and @justgosketching kit were so easy to use, I love how lightweight and portable they are. Stunning Hydrangeas, so prolific in this area, a beautiful burst of vibrant colours, their brashness has grown on me over the years. Today I just wanted to use pinks and purples….. #hrdrangeas , #hortensia , #naturelover , #watercoloursketch , #watercolourstudy , #watercolourflowers , #sennelieraquarelle . taken in Cork, Ireland by @creativeuke

I followed this beautiful Amaryllis over 9 days as it began to bloom. A project (started last year) became irresistible once more, as I was captivated by the beauty that was unfolding daily. This year, I played with tonal and shape studies, using random pastels and old brown paper before I took out my sketchbook - and found I benefited from this layer of playful curiosity. #watercolourillustration #penandwatercolour #amaryllis , #dailysketch I love the luminosity of the @sennelier1887 watercolours, and combined this in some sketches with dip pen and ink, experimenting with different techniques over the 9 days. My sketchbook is @hahnemuehle_global 200 gsm and the last image was on Arches cold pressed watercolour paper. taken in Cork, Ireland by @creativeuke

Can’t resist a bit of Sparkle! Playing with beautiful colours, who’d have thought supergranulating and iridescent watercolours would mix so well! @schmincke_official supergrantlating Horadam watercolour -Galaxy Blackrock and @sennelier1887 Iridescent Pthalo Blue, on @hahnemuehle_global 200gsm Watercolour Book. (The background sparkle on the first image is ice on the roof of my car, in January this year). #watercolourillustration , #supergranulation , #dailysketches , #watercoloursketchbook taken in Cork, Republic of Ireland by @creativeuke
