Knight & Carriage 🏰

This bridal ensemble is inspired by medieval architecture and sculptures. I wanted to bring a more contemporary look while also taking inspiration from the past.

Such as the seam lines on bodice looking like silver armor and the feathers like chainmail giving protection and a soft elegance. While the skirt is a mermaid silhouette and has floral embroidery appliqué reminiscent of roses that would grow on castle gates.

This ensemble not only exaggerates the body but extenuates it!

AAS Capstone Blank Canvas 2025: She Met West 🎷

She met west describes a Chinese lady who is discovering the western society in America. Her journey begins in California during the late 1800s when the Chinese exclusion act was introduced. These portraits draw out her appearance during this tragic time for her people as she is afraid that she will be sent on a boat back to china. Yet a smile on her face expresses optimism for her future.

For this dress I was inspired by the late 1800s bustle silhouette from the west with details from cheongsam like the mandarin collar depicting the east. It has a fitted bodice with bridal buttons down the front. The back has 2 large puffs layered on top of each other and both filled with pleated crinoline mesh and organza for volume. It also has a bubble cap sleeves. The dress also includes a long train in the back. This whole dress is made of 100% cotton canvas and is fully lined. The text on the dress is handwritten and is from a letter called “Chinese immigrants write to president grant”, which describes how and why Chinese immigrants deserve the right to stay in America during the 1878 Chinese exclusion act.

The meaning of this piece is quite important in a time like this especially with the topic of immigration is in every media source. We need to be constantly reminded that America is built off of slavery who are immigrants and stolen land. Today immigrants who are here come to work and/or get a better life, they pay taxes like normal citizens. As said in the letter “The Chinese have neither attempted nor desired to interfere with the establishment order of things in this country, either of political or religion. They have opened no whisky saloons for the purpose of dealing out poison, and degrading their fellow men. They have promptly paid their duties, their taxes, their rents and their debt”

Process of making my wedding dress

Inspired by medieval castles and sculptures. I created a dress that resembles the look of armor. Contrasting the hard armor silhouette I wanted to balance the cut with the softness of feathers and floral details.

Popped art 🎈

Inspired by Andy Warhols pop art, I created a 2 piece upcycled halter neck top and skirt. The fringe is all shaped like hands and layered on top of each other and the sequins are all also hand sewn on. There’s a petticoat under the skirt to give volume and make the silhouette more A-line

Lost

Using the scrap materials from my cap stone project I was able to create a whole new dress. Heavily inspired by John gallianos 2000s dior couture shows I was able to get inspiration for my dress

Its consists of 3 pieces. A corset and 2 piece skirt. I wanted to use a many scraps as I could to preserve the meaning of my capstone while also giving it a new look.
