While it’s much less common, it is actually possible to renovate existing builds to meet SDA Design Standards.

Our Kent Town project came about as the result of successful collaboration between the owner, Crew Built, New Dawn Housing and our tenant Brodie, who worked with us to create a space that matched his needs.

Surrounded by Holdfast Bay’s crystal-clear waters, swaying pines and enigmatic beachside culture, N°5/9 Bristol St, Glenelg South is more than an architectural icon. ‘Tender is the Stay’ forges an artistic union between classic Art Deco character and a visionary interior rebrand by masters of their trades: Atelier Bond and Crew Built.

The helical spiral staircase of our North Adelaide Cottage Terrace extension freestands as a striking centrepiece, like a sculptural strand of DNA.

Formed from curved welded sectional 10mm steel plate and balanced by the warmth of open oak treads and a matching handrail, it connects all three levels of the home seamlessly—culminating beneath a 1.2m round skylight that floods the atrium with natural light.

At Crew Built, we believe every detail matters—especially when it comes to making a statement.

That’s why we’ve teamed up with the legends at @stairinnovations to create a stunning helical staircase that’s set to be the visual centrepiece of our latest project.

Crafted from 10mm structural steel plate, this bold design will soon feature oak treads and handrails, adding warmth and character to the sculptural form.

It connects the new cellar, main living area, and the master retreat on the first floor, creating a seamless flow across all three levels of the home.

It’s more than just a staircase—it’s a piece of architectural art that sets the tone for the entire space.
Stay tuned as we bring this unique design to life.
