It’s the hottest season I’ve ever had in the canyon. Thankful for the cool waters. Water that people care for, protect, see as “profitable”. It’s amazing how special water is when it’s gushing over travertine rock, but not quite so enchanting when dripping from your faucet. It’s the same water. It IS after all, the source of life. Why is climbing so much freaking easier than falling? . Many people think I’m a brave gorl. But I not. I big scared most times. . . Falling into the unknown is one thing, but why are we sometimes afraid to fall into the KNOWN. I’m struggling to step off this ledge, why? I know what’s going to happen, the rope will hold me and so will my friend @joshuacruce at the bottom. I saw my friend ally just take this swing, but yet IM SCARED FOR MY LIFE. Sometimes stepping into the unknown can be more comforting, “ignorance is bliss” mentality. I’m about to step into some huge changes in my life and it feels like I’m standing at this edge, in need of re assurance and my stomach falling out of my butt. Here we go 2024….. . . 🎶 She was a #fairy 🧚🏼 . . Or so, I thought! I found this injured #butterfly by my fj cruiser during one of the mornings of the @shemovesmountains retreat here in the #redrivergorge . As I was moving her to a nearby tree she decided to moonwalk all over my face! I felt enchanted ✨. But as I decided to skip away in a frolic, I caught an edge and road rashed the shit out of myself. Some atmospheric scattering at sunset in #redrockcanyon . Very cool phenomenon. . A lot of you were curious about this #boulder so I thought I’d share my take considering this line is growing popularity. This aesthetic boulder nestled in red rock canyon is called “Candy cane”, and only saw her first known ascent a year ago. This peppermint secret is delicate, flakey, and not built to last… yet somehow she’s here… Waiting for commitment as this top out carries heavy consequences if you second guess yourself. . This boulder sat here in quiet seclusion for likely thousands of years, and I wonder how it feels about its new found fame. In one hand she is admired for her beautiful fractures. Her impressive stripes pinched tightly attract all climbers. Even those who only climb ropes. With that comes a truth: every foot placement forever inscribes #humanity on her fragile body. Eternally changed by every touch. Reshaping her slowly and reminding us all how impermanent even the strongest things are. #climblikeagirl #protectourparks . Cochise . . Sometimes it’s hard to see what you’ve actually done until you finally stop moving.I didn’t realize how much of this year was spent in motion and how little of it was spent still until looking through my pictures. I have a long bucket list and treat it less like a dream and more like an obligation. Two days off turns into an eight-hour drive to a new crag without hesitation. Maybe that’s momentum. Maybe it’s chronic dissatisfaction. I don’t really know the difference anymore. . The days and climbs blur together, (especially when I’m in the red), and rivers feel familiar too fast. another line to tick, another stretch of current, another version of myself I’m convinced exists just around the bend- if I keep moving. My calendar fills faster than I can sit with any of it. No wonder the only boating trips that I remember are the ones where I swam someone. . I don’t know what I’m searching for, or how far I’m willing to go to find whatever it is. This year, I let go of people I once wanted forever, and I’ve had people I discarded circle back into my life. I romanticize people the same way I romanticize places and plans, convinced each one might be the answer. . My cup keeps overflowing and I can’t tell if I’m full or slowly drowning in my own abundance. . The only thing that truly separates the days are the friends I’ve chosen as family. The ones who stick around through detours and late-night arrivals and don’t charge me for my extra baggage. I’ve learned this year you don’t always get what you want, but you will keep getting what you’re meant to carry.
