Crimson Confection is my day job. Yep! I run a little fabric shop on Etsy. I'm stock gal, shipping clerk, executive and the assistant, bundle builder, fabric teller, bookkeeper, accounts payable, marketer, and on and on 🤪 It may seem a lot, but I enjoy wearing all these hats, and I especially love pulling bolts off the shelves, slicing up chosen cuts, and hand tying with ribbons, then writing 'Happy sewing! Jennifer x'.

When it comes to binding, I tend to hand stitch my binding down. My binding baby photo is a tad misleading...I'm a blob binder, meaning it pools in a puddle at my feet as I machine stitch to initially attach the binding on. I also stitch my binding such it's against me with the needle at top, going to the left. It's the opposite of what I often see posted, which is binding away from you with needle at the bottom. The latest tip I learned is to fold corners opposite of how it's folded on top. It actually lays nicer! Last, I'd really like to give big stitch binding a try. My friend Tracy has done the technique often, and I love how it looks on my quilt she finished off for me.

Well, I did say I'd hit every holiday 😆 there's chat of Christmas in my stories today, then a reshare of Funny Valentine and lastly, posting a non economy block square with a side shoot Halloween inspired project 🧡
.
I came across @scandiquilts this past week....somehow I was not on that loop....the shame! She has a new pattern out, Mormor, and I could not resist. It's a take on a knitting pattern. Super simple patchwork for which I used a stack of scrap strips I had pulled together when looking for farmgirl fabrics. It has a Halloween vibe of oranges, peach, low volume, gray and black. And the stack is perfectly suited for this pattern!

I may have already cut all my pieces, grouped them into pairs, and started sewing 🤭 I had the perfect number of sets to make a baby quilt size. I tell ya, the universe is in agreement with me, even though I shouldn't have squirreled off to another wip. I have had a want to do something charitable of late, and this can easily become a donated quilt. It's not got any tell tale Halloween prints; it literally is a color story. A sophisticated one that happens to trend with the current season 🧡

Economy block 15 🍎 a snippet of an apple print that I may have in low volume, pink, melon and aqua 😆 It's pretty much a favorite farmgirl print for me and it appears often. I've stitched enough of these blocks now, it has me itching to pull out my farmgirl blocks and maybe start playing with layout. They've been patiently waiting for their turn at becoming a quilt top for years now 🙈

I also finished up my Pumpkin Picking Day stitch 🎃💙 It has been such a fun one and I so loved filling in the blue truck and minty pumpkins. Now I'll switch to Halloween charts finally! Pattern is by Stitching with the Housewives. I used called for DMC and I believe my cloth is Pebble by @beelori1.

Next group photo! Seven more economy blocks added to my stack. The final photo is all 14 together. Not so sure the HR strawberries will stay in this group...it's sticking out a bit too much....like the family member who didn't get the memo about what not to wear for photos 🤭🤭

Economy block 13. Today's block is sitting on my pink 9 patch blocks from my Starlight project. They are the perfect leader-ender to my economy blocks, as it makes exactly one 9 patch on the side 🥳 Obviously I've finished the Winnie the Pooh coin blocks, so my next leader-ender is getting to shine 🩷
.
This economy block uses scraps of Gooseberry by @lellaboutique for the final frame. It was the collection where I discovered Vanessa and I fell in deep smit over her florals and colors and have forever loved every collection she has ever released. I *always* have her fabric designs on my shelves. Right now there's Wild Honey, True Love and Magic Dot. Plus Garden Glam yardage should be here soon; precuts arrived just last week. Happy sewing! P.S. There was a goose print in that Gooseberry collection...perhaps it should get a revisit? A glow up of Gooseberry would be so spectacular!

Sometimes I think I sew in the same color palette too often. I definitely have my favorites but this little study in daily economy blocks has made me realize I vary more than I thought 🎀 Yes, each project has a theme or style that I tend to adhere to quite strictly, but I use more of the rainbow than I thought. And then I start thinking what colors have I not done....and that leads to rabbit holes of fabric pulls, dreaming new projects, and creating more wips. Would I be a quilter if I didn't have dozens of wips? 😂 Yes, we're all quilters regardless our wip list. If you love taking fabric snd cutting it into tiny pieces, you are most definitely a quilter 🎀

Today's economy block is featured with my first Evensong block 🎀 it's in pieces, awaiting to be stitched together, most likely tomorrow while waiting at dance 🎀

You thought I forgot, didn't you 🤪 Nope! I whipped up my daily economy block this morning then had a busy day to where I didn't get to posting until now. Today's scrap is a print I snagged from Joann years ago. Back when there was the cute Santa print we all desperately loved 🎀

I've started to applique a few hexie cathedral blocks as I needed the hexie papers for more blocks. These were a fun random project I started on a whim. There's these low volume versions, then I have medium blue ones that I plan to applique to the low volume opposite of this dot. Just hoping I have enough for background 😆 as none of this idea was planned.

Saturday night and you bet, I'm snuggled onto the sofa, cross stitch in hand, and thinking on my Chinese fortune 🍁🍂🩷 Little Blue truck is all stitched in and there's just the pumpkin patch left to fill up. I've really enjoyed this stitch, but I am itching to start working some Halloween charts! Once thus one is done, I'll pick up Halloween Mementos again and get the shelves filled up. Then there's a Frankenstein stitch I've been thinking on, and I always have a new stitchy witch started 💜

Tonight we ordered in Chinese. We've found a spot here in town that's quite yummy. The boy had a soccer game, the girl is away at a 4 hour choreo for dance, the weather is gray, trying to be moody, and I decided take in sounded delightful....and a lot less dishes 😂😂

Economy block 10, another pink cutie 🩷 I have one tiny precious scrap left from this Lil Red Riding Hood print. I used a section for the center here and now have an odd shaped scrap left. How would you use it? I'm hesitant to stitch it into anything as seam allowances would eat into Red. Maybe an applique technique instead?

Mary of @sunnydaysupply asked if anyone saved the fabric ribbons used to tie up their packages. I do! I save every bit, as I am a firm believer in make do. I probably had enough strips to make quilt binding 🤭 but I used several in my scrappy Norah this summer instead. I have one last strip I'm using here and there in my economy blocks. It was perfect to frame this sweet bunny 🩷

Economy block 9. Today has been quite busy between shop business, house chores, errands and.... puzzle building. Yeah that last one is the most important task to complete 😆😂 I set out an autumn puzzle last week and the last section of leaves are just dying to be put together! 🍁🍂💕

But I snuck away and added another pink economy block to my stack. TGIF!!

After that group photo, I could see I needed to balance all my aqua blocks with some pink. And of course, it reminded me of my pink Starlight quilt project, so I pulled out the two test blocks I had made. Pretty sure I'm gonna love this pink quilt 💕

Economy block 7 💛 and time for a group photo! I'm quite pleased with myself for sticking to this challenge and actually stitching a block a day. Most times I cheat 🙈 I'll sew several blocks in one day then share one at a time. But I'm determined not to do that this time! I really want to be intentional and truly set aside a few minutes to sew a cute little block. Plus it's gotten me working on multiple wips, making tiny progress beyond these micro blocks.
.
I've sewn some flower baskets, several more Winnie coin blocks, prepped hsts for Smart Cookie, and even quilted panels in a bag project. Perhaps a small side challenge is key to working on wips 🤔 it is getting me to post every day, which is a small miracle in itself 🤭
