Gestures! The Barcelona Ethnographic Museum is a gem. Three floors of beautifully presented and annotated displays and almost no other visitors. A quiet oasis to think in the tourist centre. Lots to think about! by @crombiejan

Continuing the Goya theme.. We made it to Fuendetodos a tiny village in the arid hills outside Zaragoza. It’s where Goya was born and lived as a child. The house is beautifully preserved and part of a small but magical museum where I could sit with his work in such a different atmosphere to a public museum. Wow what a day!! A coffee at the friendly cafe and an efficient rural bus service made it a memorable day ! 👌 by @crombiejan

Zaragoza!! The birthplace of Goya. Seeing his work here is deeply moving, to see his etchings in this setting is extraordinary. As relevant and prescient as when they were made. So much to be inspired by.
In the old town where we’re staying there is a tradition of mural painting in the empty lots and they are wonderful.

The studio wall with an off cut of canvas pinned to it. The informality is encouraging me to explore new ideas and different techniques, currently using acrylics but will probably swap to oils tomorrow to try some layers of glazes
Work in progress..

August is about walking and drawing, thinking and writing, gathering energy from the forests and preparing for new adventures in the studio…

A deep clean in the pottery studio yesterday unearthed these .. the first two are made from layers of coloured slips drizzled onto a plaster bat. They are part of a project exploring aspects of the monstrous..
I’m ready to launch into making new ceramic work now..

Image 1 has been haunting me, after my show this was the one I put back on the wall.. I think it’s guiding me into the new work that I’m busy with following the experience in Berlin..

Forest floor is my working title for a new project, developing ideas from Symbiotic Worlds ( my last show.) These are 3d drawings using objects I’ve both made and found. I’m calling them Prophetic assemblages. It’s just at the developing ideas stage but these details will become part of a large 3d work / installation..

Hot and steamy for my 10 days in Berlin but inspiring on all fronts! Really productive ! As well as visiting Museums and galleries I’ve been on a course at the Berlin Art Institute.
Today is first day back in Uk studio with a bunch of drawings, filled sketch books, copious notes, and fresh trains of thought to follow up. Head and hands are buzzing!
But it’s good to be home !
