It's finally launch day for "Essay on Masks," the contemporary poetry collection by Wolf Eberhardt. You can get your copy today in paperback or epub from Amazon, direct from Crooked Circle Press, or from most other major book retailers!

**********

Wolf Eberhardt’s "Essay on Masks" is a study in intimacy and collapse. Moving fluidly between lyric intensity and philosophical play, these poems portray desire, grief, humor, memory, and myth with restless energy. The words are witness to the same persistent question: how do we remain human while everything is dissolving?

At once intimate and cosmological, ferocious and tender, this collection reads like a nervous system exposed—charged with desire, haunted by mortality, and sharpened by self-awareness. It is a book for readers who recognize that beauty is often found at the edge of danger, and that love and ruin share a border.

It's launch day for "Reality in Action" by Jill Spiewak Eng! Comment "Reality" below for links to buy the book on Amazon, Bookshop.org, or Crooked Circle Direct.

DESCRIPTION:

What if nothing you do is actually chosen?

In "Reality in Action: How We Spend Our Time," Jill Spiewak Eng challenges the deeply held belief that we consciously control our actions. Blending neuroscience, philosophy, and mindful inquiry, she argues that behavior is physical, automatic, and unfolding before we notice it.

By dismantling ideas of free will, intention, and moral blame, Eng reframes how we understand responsibility, anxiety, compassion, and justice. The result is not nihilism, but clarity—a way of seeing human life as it actually happens, not as we imagine it should.

Through her practice, Mindful Reality, one can acknowledge that the body's physical existence is the only action there can ever be.

Provocative, rigorous, and quietly humane, "Reality in Action" is for readers ready to question the story of the self—and what follows when it falls apart.

This is one of the 21 poems in the chapbook "Afterlife" by Thomas James. It's available in paperback or ebook from Amazon and most other major bookstores, or you can get it directly from Crooked Circle Press.

The Will of the Way

Into a headwind and fresh out of chances,
here in the third act, the curtain falls hard.
Steadfast delays with sporadic advances,
spewing soliloquies, splendidly scarred.

How many roads must a man wander idly?
How many times must the cannonballs fly?
Whirlwinds of answers, available widely:
sponsored result or a popular lie?

Seeking the means through eternal regression,
even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Led by a frivolous lifelong obsession,
learning to trust in the will of the way.

"Break" is one of the shorter poems in the chapbook "Feathered Throat" by Allisonn Church (Crooked Circle Press, 2025).

Break

Life at the end of the world
cuts me open,
like a sharp beak with a seed.

Poetry about the end of the world just feels timely these days, no? Anyway, this is a friendly reminder that "Feathered Throat" is available from Amazon, Crooked Circle Direct, and most other major bookstores, and the ebook is just US$1.99! Comment "feather" below to receive the links by DM.

It's that time of year when we take a moment to look back before moving forward again. Crooked Circle LLC was founded in January of 2025, and we went on to publish five books in our first year. We have learned quite a bit and developed great relationships in that time. We have been lucky enough to work with some very talented professionals, both writers and others. I can't name everyone who has been part of the journey, but I'd like to particularly thank @iamjulietjames , @poetryandmiracles , @penelopeknayme , and @doodleslice for their efforts. If you're reading this, thank you, too.

Looking forward to 2026, we have three projects already in the works, including the first book in a new fantasy series from Penelope Knayme. Expect more info on that soon.

This time of year has become more about discounting than giving, so instead of a typical holiday sale, Crooked Circle Press is announcing our Winter Gifting Event.

If you buy a book directly from the Crooked Circle Press retail site through the end of 2025, you will receive a second book of our choice that we think you might like as a free gift. If the surprise book is not for you, we hope you’ll give it to someone else who might enjoy it.

Crooked Circle Press: "Do you ever go back and reread your older work? If so, what do you notice?"

Allisonn Church: "Yes! In fact, I've been doing this a lot lately. Usually I notice that it's better than I realized at the time. Sometimes I can't even believe I wrote it! In the event that it's not great, editing is also easier after some time away. Weirdly, I only feel this way about poetry—revisiting old prose is stressful for me."

Crooked Circle Press: "Which writer has influenced you the most, and how do they show up in your work?"

Juliet James: "Judy Blume. She wrote things so many of us thought, felt or experienced, but that so rarely ever show up on a page, even to this day. She wrote about those thoughts or experiences with such rare, raw honesty and bluntness. I want to write my characters with an authenticity that mirrors how I'd talk to a best friend, especially in a novel like 'Cravings,' where the reader is very much in Tessa's most personal inner thoughts."
