📸 Bab al-Tabbaneh, Tripoli, Lebanon — January 9, 2025.

Tabbaneh is one of the most impoverished neighborhoods in Lebanon and among the poorest urban areas in the Middle East, standing as an emblem of the country’s entrenched economic inequality and the long-lasting consequences of regional conflicts and political and social marginalization.
Decades of systemic neglect have left it with crumbling infrastructure and little to no access to basic services such as healthcare, education, and food security.
The neighborhood has been the site of repeated clashes, fueled by sectarian tensions between its Sunni Muslim majority—historically opposed to Assad’s influence in Lebanon— and the Alawite community in its neighbor Jabal Mohsen, a sect closely aligned with Syria’s Assad regime.
The Syrian Civil War further exacerbated hostility and deepened the divide between the two, reinforcing cycles of mistrust and instability and leaving both neighborhoods scarred by years of conflict and neglect. taken in Tabbaneh by @crowdedmynd
