2025 Temple of Aequus (Equality)
Took form through gail-force winds and shaped itself as it was meant to be. Questioning whether the Black Rock desert was meant to house that many humans even for a short period is the default question. When it was sub 20k people in attendance when I first started burning I didn’t ask those questions. I was just astounded. Burning Man isn’t the only identity change affecting the plot. Smartphones along with 5G ubiquitous signal has changed the nature of anonymity, radical expression, and quite frankly the mere population of who knew about the event and what they “knew”…. A group of folks creating art who have somewhat gotten used to the love and the spirit of regional burns making art in the desert somewhat rebelled against the ways of the BM org style of oversight as much as the extremity of the environment. But we definitely inherited the massive reward that comes with having made fairly large art on the playa. And that is just to have done it and contributed to the real exchange that can happen out there. Below the surface that is often criticized and for good reason, Burning Man has done more for society than is often given credit. I’m glad to have found a crew that would venture out to be so bold as to venture cross-country and build a structure that was a safe haven from the elements and a real temple. It’s was transportive. Not sure what the future holds for BM, for the temple and for my time in the desert. We shall seeeeee… by @crswd
