My All-Women Shark Tank Entrepreneur College Panel!

Some years ago, while touring colleges with Shark Tank entrepreneurs, I brought together a powerful panel of successful women from the show for Santa Monica College. Producing an all-women panel was a first for me—and it was a big hit with the students who attended!

The event was beautifully produced, and the audience’s engagement and participation were amazing.

Stories are powerful. They touch us in deeply personal ways and resonate long after the event is over.

That is why, even with today’s tremendous advances in AI and other technology, I believe nothing can replace hearing someone share their personal story live. That human connection can change us at the very core of who we are—and leave a lasting impact.

The Conversation Came Before the Picture.

Earth, Wind & Fire has been my favorite group for years.

One day while I was out running errands, I happened to be sitting next to legendary drummer and founding member Ralph Johnson.

I introduced myself, and instead of asking for a selfie, we simply started talking. We had a wonderful conversation about music, life, and what it takes to perform at such a high level for decades.

Before he left, I asked him one question.

"How do you guys still stay hungry and continue performing at such a high level after all these years?"

He smiled, answered my question, and walked away.

A few moments later...

He came back.

Smiling, he looked at me and asked,

"Would you like to take a picture?"

I never even asked.

That moment reminded me of something I've believed throughout my career.

When you genuinely connect with people first, opportunities often take care of themselves.

The conversation came before the photograph.

His answer is in this video.

YOUR STORY IS MORE VALUABLE THAN YOU THINK

Most people believe they don't have an interesting story.

**I believe the opposite.**

This morning, I spent time practicing the opening of my new storytelling course.

As I read it over and over, I was reminded of something important.

The moments we often overlook in our own lives are often the very moments that inspire someone else the most.

For years, I believed the most valuable parts of my story were the interviews, the live radio show, and the professional accomplishments.

But I've discovered something different.

The stories people connect with most aren't about success.

They're about the setbacks.

The rebuilding.

The uncertainty.

The perseverance.

Those experiences didn't weaken my story.

They gave it meaning.

In a world where AI can generate content in seconds, authentic human experience is becoming one of our most valuable assets.

Your story doesn't have to be famous.

It has to be authentic.

Because someone may be waiting to hear the lesson you've already lived.

🎙️ THE KEY IS NOT AVOIDING MISTAKES

When I started my broadcasting career, I had very little experience and only a two-month training course behind me.

Did I make mistakes?

Plenty.

But those mistakes taught me lessons I could never have learned any other way.

The key is not avoiding mistakes.

The key is learning from them and having the courage to keep moving forward.

The mistakes weren't evidence that I was failing.

They were evidence that I was learning.

Keep growing.
Keep improving.
Keep moving forward.

SERENDIPITY ✨

The gift of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for.

I've noticed something about highly motivated people.

They are usually happy.

They love what they do.

They have found their calling—and somehow, their calling found them.

Most importantly, when the opportunity appeared, they answered the call.

Many years ago, I was training to become a therapist. I had no idea that path would eventually lead me into broadcasting, interviewing, speaking, media production, and storytelling.

One opportunity led to another.

One conversation led to another.

One unexpected door opened after another.

Looking back, some of the greatest opportunities in my life came from places I never expected.

Sometimes the path to your purpose is not a straight line.

It is a journey of discovery.

You may be preparing for one path, but life may be revealing another.

KEEP YOUR DREAM ALIVE!

Moments Before I Took The Stage With Shark Tank Entrepreneurs

This video was recorded moments before I stepped onto the stage at the NACCE Conference at the Newport Beach Marriott in 2019.

The room was filling up. The energy was incredible. You could hear the excitement throughout the ballroom as entrepreneurs, educators, and business leaders gathered for what would become a tremendous event.

As I stood there taking it all in, I was reminded of something I have believed for many years:

Keep your dream alive.

Many people see moments like this and think they happen overnight. They don't.

They are built through persistence, preparation, relationships, hard work, and the willingness to keep moving forward when others quit.

Today, I'm taking many of the lessons I've learned from experiences like this and incorporating them into my upcoming Storytelling Course, launching this Fall.
