Everyone wants to get faster.

But very few athletes spend enough time learning how to stop.

Every sprint, cut, and change of direction requires you to absorb and control force before you can produce force again.

If you can’t effectively brake your body, you’re limiting what you can do with your speed.

That’s why elite movement isn’t just:

ACCELERATE → GO FASTER

It’s:

ACCELERATE → DECELERATE → REPOSITION → REACCELERATE

Deceleration is a trainable quality.

And it should be progressed just like acceleration — from lower speeds and longer braking distances toward higher velocities and shorter braking distances.

Don’t just train athletes to produce force.

Train them to control it.

Hip mobility isn’t just about stretching. It’s about creating space, controlling your range, and learning to move through it. ⚡️

Try this band-assisted hip mobility drill to explore a deeper range of motion and improve hip control.

Mobility you can use. Movement you can own. 👑

The body has to adapt when the load doesn’t behave as expected.

The Tidal Tank Ball from Ultimate Instability challenges athletes to control a shifting load while coordinating the trunk, hips, and lower body.

The constantly moving water creates unpredictable changes in load distribution, demanding continuous adjustments in force and body position.

For athletes, the goal isn’t just to produce force. It’s to control it.

Your hip flexors need to do more than stretch.

For footballers, I want the hip flexors and core to be able to actively shorten and lengthen under control.

The L-sit pass-through challenges:
→ Active hip flexion
→ Core control
→ Hip compression strength
→ Controlled lengthening through range
→ Coordination between the trunk and hips

The goal isn’t just having more range.

It’s being able to control and produce force through that range.

That matters when you’re sprinting, changing direction, accelerating, decelerating and moving through different positions on the pitch.

Train the range.
Control the range.
Own the range. by @crwnperformance

Your heart tells you whether the training is working.

Resting heart rate: the lower it trends, the less your heart has to work at rest. For the trained athletes we work with, we like to see 39–44 bpm. At 50–60 bpm, the heart is still working hard, even at rest.

HRV: the higher it trends, the more room your body has to handle stress. For trained athletes, we look for 120–200 ms. In the 40–80 ms range, stress and fatigue hit harder.

For context, the average WHOOP member sits around 55–59 bpm and 62–65 ms.

Compare yourself to yourself. One bad morning after a hard session, poor sleep or a night out is normal. The trend over weeks is what matters. When resting heart rate comes down and HRV climbs, the work is paying off.

Most athletes train their body to produce movement.

But high-level performance also depends on how well you can perceive information and respond to it.

Tennis-ball drills are a simple way to challenge:

• Peripheral vision
• Hand-eye coordination
• Reaction speed
• Balance & stability
• Proprioception
• Cognitive processing
• Movement adaptability

The goal isn’t just to catch the ball.

It’s to see → process → react → move → stabilize.

By constantly changing the stimulus, direction, speed and task, we create an environment where the nervous system has to adapt rather than simply repeat.

Better movement isn’t always about doing more.

Sometimes it’s about giving the brain better information to work with. by @crwnperformance

A goalkeeper doesn’t just need to jump higher.

He needs to be able to produce, absorb and redirect force in every direction.

For this 16-year-old goalkeeper, we’re developing:

↕️ Vertical force
↔️ Lateral force
➡️ Horizontal projection
🔄 Rotational / 3D movement

The goal isn’t simply to make him stronger.

It’s to build an athlete who can move better, react faster and express force when the game demands it.

At 6’5”, his physical potential is obvious.

Our job is to make sure he can actually use it.

In our change of direction phases, the last one would be to cognitively tax the reaction by creating the movement based on an external cue.

If you want to improve your change of direction, you must add a sense of chaos that replicates real life sports. by @crwnperformance
