I wish I could say I’m still buzzing from @dallasmeetup but to be honest, I’m still recovering! 😁 I was blessed with an opportunity to partner with @carsongibbons and the DallasMeetup crew on the marquee digital signage seen throughout the space, as well as creating a custom live art experience throughout the event. Seeing everything come to life, and Allllllllllll the selfies and photos with the marquee in the background…or featured definitely make the work put in all worthwhile. The painting, which I created during the event reads “Make your Mark,” a simple phrase in honor of the non profit cohort and the leaders that are making their mark in the community. I then asked the featured networkers to collaborate by making their mark directly on the canvas. Judging by the interactions and interest, it was a success. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to pull it off between signatures, waiting for the paint to dry and everything in between but I got pretty close. As an extra bonus, I met the @arlingtontxmayor Jim Ross which was cool period, but much much much more significant as I am currently working on a major mural project in collaboration with @cityofarlington which wouldn’t have been possible without his approval. Huge thanks to Carson once again, for the partnership and for capturing the photos of my interaction with Mayor Jim Ross. I walked away realizing I never took a pic with him, and fortunately you were way ahead of me! Over the past year I’ve shared my journey as an artist and muralist, but there is much more to the story. I spent 15 years in advertising and design working for small, medium, and big agencies, and I was addicted to solving some of the biggest challenges that came across my desk. When working at The Integer Group, I proposed an off the wall idea that the clients immediately bought for Super Bowl LVII in 2023. The client was Frito Lay, who is the official sponsor of the Super Bowl…a client I helped pitch and win for the agency a few years prior. The idea was to commemorate that positioning with a suite of Super Bowl rings created with Josten, who has created a majority of the Super Bowl championship rings. Each ring featured brand elements, and was decked out with real jewels and gold. I spent the summer of 2022 designing and working with their 3D team to develop the rings, which were ultimately given away via a social campaign. In addition, these were featured at the fan experience which takes place in the days leading up to the Super Bowl. As I continue to build and expand the work of Cryptid Theory, I want to leverage my full skillset from creative director to consultant to mural designer. I think that is a differential factor in my practice. Additionally, I know I can’t do it all alone. So one of the goals I have is to partner with other creatives, including: brand designers, muralists, agencies and more to create the work I’ve always wanted to create. The ChampionChip rings are one of my favorite projects during my agency tenure. I had a stellar team and external partners to bring this one to life. This mural on North Cooper street by @thecryptidtheory is the first completed mural and pays tribute to Arlington's natural ecosystem. Yesterday morning I had a friend drop by the mural site. Meet @cothrift Cody Thrift, an Arlington based web and marketing designer. We met through a mutual friend @thewesleyporter years ago and have become friends through organizations like @greaterarlingtontx Chamber of Commerce. By the way, if you’re looking to grow your business with his marketing expertise reach out to him. Great dude! Fun fact, I invited Cody out to a ribbon cutting ceremony back in January for local coffee shop @arlingtoncoffeeroasters where I had recently completed a mural…actually my first mural as Cryptid Theory when I launched my business. It was at that event where I also met @mauriciogalante.us who approached me about the project (projects) I am currently working on with @cityofarlington the celebrate the city’s 150th anniversary. Fast forward 9 months, and I’m bringing this murals to life with the support of the city, @arlingtonfoundation the chamber, friends, and of course the neighbors and commuters who pass by these walls every day. In total, there are four walls, and I’m currently working on the second which should be complete in the next two weeks. Back out at Fielder here in North Arlington priming and prepping this wall for my next project. This thing is a beast! 540 feet wide by 15 feet tall at the tallest point. So prep and prep isn’t a quick thing. There has also been a ton of remaining paint chipping that I’ve had to remove even after the power washing. But I’m getting close. Getting close. When I was a kid I dreamt of this…I just never really thought it was possible. I’ve been blessed to with a career as a creative in advertising, but I always found my way back to art. Now I get to leverage my background as a creative director and my art background as I continue on this journey with my business.
