🔥A rally in bitcoin led the cryptocurrency market higher ahead of a major technical event for the digital coin and as industry participants report an increased interest from institutional investors.
Bitcoin crossed $10,000 on Friday morning Singapore time, the first time it has hit that price since February, according to data from CoinDesk. The cryptocurrency had pared some of those gains and was trading around $9,900.75 as of 1:39 p.m. Singapore time, still representing a more than 6.4% rise from the day before. The entire market capitalization or value of the cryptocurrency market had jumped by more than $13 billion from the day before, as of around 1:39 p.m. Singapore time. That move had been largely driven by bitcoin which makes up most of that figure. The value of the entire market stood at $268.07 billion. .

🇺🇦🔥Cryptocurrency mining is a contemporary and efficient way to use excess energy, Ukraine's Ministry of Energy argued in a May 6 statement published on Facebook. According to the post, local nuclear plants have generated the surplus due to the COVID-19 lockdown. The bureau is now looking to apply progressive solutions to avoid wasting energy as part of the government’s course toward digitalization championed by president Volodymyr Zelensky. Leaving the situation unchanged might create “conditions for corruption offenses, which will ultimately be paid at Ukrainian citizens’ expense”, the ministry warns.

🔥🚀Ethereum’s network is experiencing its busiest days in 10 months amid increased issuance of stablecoins and the runup to Ethereum 2.0.
The seven-day moving average of the total number of confirmed transactions on Ethereum’s blockchain rose to 845,400 on April 30 to hit the highest level since July 1 , 2019, according to the data source Coin Metrics. As of Sunday, the average was 837,100. The transaction count had declined to 12-month lows in February. Since then, however, it has surged by 72%.

Crypto exchange, Rakuten Wallet, now holds status as a Kanto Finance Bureau-registered operation, "as a first-class financial instruments business operator based on the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act," the company announced on May 1.
At the start of May, regulatory specifications, known as the revised Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, came into play. The regulations require exchanges to gain approval for the offering of leveraged and derivative crypto trading.

On Project Syndicate, Roubini outlined 10 major factors that will fuel the next financial crisis, with one of the main factors being the rising inflation rate dictated by the Federal Reserve (FED).

“Second, because the stimulus was poorly timed, the US economy is now overheating, and inflation is rising above target. Reserve currencies or fiat money is controlled by one entity that is the central bank. While the value of fiat money tends to be stable because it represents the economic state of a nation, a rapid increase in inflation rate and the overheating economy could lead to the devaluation of the currency.

In 2018, the crypto market suffered its fourth-worst correction in history after recording an 80 percent decline in valuation. Still, several cryptocurrencies outperformed a handful of national currencies including the Argentinian peso, Venezuelan bolivar, and Turkish lira.

The US dollar remains strong in value, as well as other major reserve currencies like the Chinese yuan, Japanese yen, and the pound sterling. Matic, a cryptocurrency that underwent a huge pump-and-dump last year, has been unable to revive its bullish momentum in 2020.
