It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my beloved mother, Charlotte Smith. She left this world surrounded by love, leaving an indescribable void in our lives.

To me, she wasn’t just my mom—she was my greatest source of strength, comfort, and inspiration. Her love was the kind that could steady any storm and brighten even the darkest days. She taught me what it means to love selflessly, to give wholeheartedly, and to embrace life with grace and courage. She was my guiding light, my confidant, and my greatest blessing.

To our family, she was the heart of everything—her kindness, warmth, and unwavering devotion were unmatched. Her memory will forever live on in our hearts, shaping who we are and how we love.

Funeral arrangements are still being finalized, and I will share those details soon. For now, we ask for your prayers and comforting thoughts as we navigate this immense loss.

Eight years ago today, we were eating dinner before my mom’s appointment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. My beautiful mom was very sick and we needed answers. First, she had to have blood transfusions as she was bleeding internally. She had bleeds (varices) throughout her body. They tied those off. However, the most devastating news that we learned is that she had stage 4 cirrhosis of the liver due to a fatty liver.

Since then, she has had wonderful dr’s in Missouri (Columbia and most recently Hannibal Regional Hospital). We also took her back to the Mayo Clinic to ensure she was getting the best care. And, she was!

However, she has been getting worse with liver failure, kidney failure, heart failure, etc. But, one thing is sure-She is the same person as she always was. She knows everything and her memory is better than mine! She loves life, her friends and family, church family, and more.

We made the difficult decision to move her to the nursing home in Vandalia on hospice. I know she would love to receive cards from you if you feel so inclined.

Cassidy and Blake gave me the greatest gift of a beautiful granddaughter named Charlotte after my mom, Charlotte! What a beautiful blessing. We are awaiting the arrival of my 2nd grandchild, Charlotte Jane in March! I’m so proud of Cassidy as she’s been through much including 2 miscarriages, 1 ectopic, and the loss of her tube, 2 IUIs, IVF, and a high risk pregnancy. Currently, she is in her 32nd week, and we need her to make it at least 4 1/2 weeks! I couldn’t be more proud of my daughter and her resilience. Our new baby girl will named after both of her grandmothers which so touching. Charlotte is after my mother and Jane is after Greg’s mother! What a miracle she is! Prayers for her to make to the end!
