DRIP

When outside is wet and damp
Taking care of her next step
As she goes out to camp
One step at a time as it might be slippery

One wrong move and she might fall
Lucky if her fall takes her into a bush
Where leaves harbour rain drops
Little droplets shower on her

The greenery makes her think
Of lying on her back
Looking up to the sky
Perhaps screaming a bit

That she did, arching her back
Face up, legs spread
Grabbing two fistful of hair
Sound of water 'dripping'
All the while admiring nature around her
As she sees nothing but stars.

Even now, in this season of cheer,
When lights shine bright, hearts should be warm,
And love should bind us all.

Struggling to fit into a society
Governed by the rules of the long gone,
Most who were far from perfection.

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH

"Queer Voices" is a heartfelt poem of resilience, identity, resistance and pride. Written from my truth as a young lesbian within the LGBTQI+ community, it reflects the pain of rejection, discrimination, shame and isolation, while celebrating the strength found in unity and self acceptance. The poem honors queer people who continue to rise above hate and oppression, lifting their voices in courage, love and freedom during and after Pride Month.

QUEER VOICES

They call us strange
They call us cursed
We have suffered shame
They said it's a game.

Family cast us out
Accused of being possessed
Agents of Lucifer
Set up for doom.

We were helpless and sad
Then we rose as a team
We found our voice
Silent in the midst of chaos.

They felt we were done for
We proved them wrong
Soaring higher than an eagle
Queer voices singing ... the song of freedom.

What is love?
The kind that looks beyond flaws,
That ignores the occasional pain and triggers,
And let's it all slide.

What is love?
The type that opens your eyes to humanity,
Brings you to the realisation that you can be better
That makes you question your inner spirit
Before you make decisions.

What is love?
The feeling of connection
Between two souls
Understanding without spoken words
Two acting as one.

Love is a decision too,
To be better. To open your heart.
To be human. To cherish one another.
Choose love.

IT'S YOUR CALL

The past is always rarely pleasant,
Sometimes reminiscing is like picking up a book
Long forgotten from the shelf
Dust accumulated from long periods of abandonment.

The past is sometimes very painful,
Searing through your heart like a knife
Bitterness coursing through your veins,
Like blood, profusely
Choking you with emotions that are now distant, yet familiar.

The past is sometimes full of fondness,
Fond memories that makes you smile
Mostly from a loving childhood
Or the privilege of a blessed home
Foreign to pain, disappointments, shame, hate.

The past is a guide
Towards the wrong, towards the right
The past is a choice
For you to choose to be good or bad
For you to choose forgiveness or revenge
The past is what it is...a time far gone.

The present is now
Full of fresh perspectives and choices
A wheel in your hands
To steer to the desired direction.
