MERMAID SUMMER FINALE 🐚🫧🧜‍♀️

You got a special power? That you’re not afraid to use?

Hiii! @rey_erins and I took these photos just a couple days before HFX Jazz Fest, so I didn’t have time to process them beforehand. Since then, I’ve been attending different festivals as an artist!

Most recently at Future Forest, I discovered a new love for flow art using silk veil fans—and an even deeper love for freestyle dance. Performance art is nothing new to me, having grown up doing 9 years of competitive dance, but now it’s come back full swing, and I’m ready to dive in!

For this performance, I’ll be borrowing a pair of long blue silk fans from my friend @emersyn.evren.chaulk since I couldn’t get a pair on short notice. They’re the PERFECT mermaid blue. 🧜‍♀️

There’s been so much serendipity and chaos floating around this summer, and I’m surrendering to this new divergence in my artistic path. With @eastcoastmarketsandexchange ’s once-a-year waterfront event gathering a multicultural community of vendors, crafters, artists and performers during a full moon + lunar eclipse weekend, it feels like the stars truly aligned for this epic summer finale. 🌕🌟

Bridging handmade jewelry with crystals, seashells and pearls, surreal fine art exploring memory, imagination and spiritual philosophies, photography, graphic design, and now freestyle performance—here we are, full circle, embracing every part of my interdisciplinary practice.

Something artists must do is wear ALL the hats! I’m grateful I’ve built the skills over the years to make, design, photograph, perform and share my own work. These uniquely human abilities are worth protecting, and I’m going to keep pushing mine to their fullest. ❤️‍🔥

Creation 💫
5’5” × 9’ • Oil on canvas
Creation began as an abstraction assignment during my Intermediate Painting class at NSCAD, but over 80+ hours it evolved into my largest painting to date and an exploration of life’s beginnings, the relationship between divine masculine and feminine energies, and the mysterious intelligence that guides intuitive creation. 👁️‍🗨️

After spending a semester exploring intuitive drawing, ! approached this canvas without a plan. As a dancer, I danced while laying down the red and blue underpainting, allowing movement to establish the painting’s first energy. Red represents the divine masculine-action, structure, and materialism-while blue represents the divine feminine: intuition, creativity, and spirituality.

The first large defining mark came from a dream the night before class: a single sweeping brushstroke that bridged the two colours. From there, the painting unfolded through observation rather than intention. I made marks, stepped back, discovered forms, and developed the relationships thatbrushstroke that bridged the two colours. Across the canvas, anatomy transforms into galaxies, nervous systems into rivers, and glowing particles into both stars and sperm cells. Symbols such as Fibonacci spirals, serpents, wormholes, ancient civilizations, spirit animals, and celestial imagery weave together to explore growth, consciousness, and the interconnected nature of creation.
Like dreams, this painting continues revealing new meanings long after it was finished. I hope you find your own story within it. 🙏🏼🌟🦅🧘‍♀️👽🛸🌎🫀🦈🌀🪷🔮🍄🔭

Halifax Jazz Fest - Year 3 ❤️‍🔥🎷
Wow, my heart is full of love. Thank you so much to every single person who came out to support, said hello, enjoyed live music, fresh food, warm sun, or coastal air - I am beyond grateful for you.

Being with @hfxjazzfest for the third year, I cannot express how much love and fulfillment this special festival brings. Especially when @menitrust, one of my favourite artist’s, was announced as a headliner, I was shaking in my boots! 🙈 I also adore working on the Halifax Waterfront, as I get to meet so many wonderful people, local or from afar, that have so many unique stories to share! Thank you to all the staff members, volunteers, and artists who make this show possible for us all! 🌟🌎❤️
