Looking to spend your Autumn Day giving back to your community? Join CSA as we bring together students who are passionate about community service with the Social Justice Learning Institute’s Health Equity Team! We will be:

🥬Sorting through & bagging produce for distribution
💪Set up & break down.
🥕Distributing vegetables at our sidewalk market.
📦Lifting of some heavy boxes if you are able.
🌱Light gardening.

Pick one of two shifts: 8:15am-12:30pm & 11:15am-2:30pm

Back in 2020, Assistant Director Ryan Yamashita ‘13, @csa_lmu, and @lmusurfclub designed a Surf n’ Service AB (Alternative Break) to Costa Rica

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the trip was cancelled the Wednesday before departure

Yesterday, our three organizations got to bring a mini version of that back, celebrating Coastal Cleanup Day with @healthebay and doing surf lessons with @wavehuggers 🏖️🥤♻️🌊🏄

In total, we collected more than 250lbs of trash at Dockweiler State Beach, and got to be a part of 60+ service sites for #coastalcleanupday

It was awesome getting to see all the stoke in the water, seeing so many people’s first waves, and getting to give our beaches some love!

We hope to be able to do more of these in the future! Thanks for being a part of yesterday - Go Lions!! 🦁

Join Dr. Oscar Gutierrez for a conversation on environmental justice in LA, from wildfires to climate impacts on our most vulnerable communities. During the summer, @csa_lmu reached out to see if we’d like to be a part of their signature Serve LA event in the fall

Their goal was to offer more service sites, get more Lions out, and see if we could increase our LMU impact across the LA area (all in one day!) 🦁🏙️🛣️🚐💨

Thanks to our alumni connections, we were able to line up two new sites:
1) Water testing at the LA River with @lawaterkeeper and @patagoniapasadena 💧🧪🧫
2) Beach cleanup in Santa Monica with @surfriderla and our own student club @surfriderlmu 🌊🥤♻️

After Hurricane Marie, this was a great way for us to start giving our beaches and waterways some love

Overall, we ended up having close to 75 Lions giving back throughout the LA area at 4 different sites:
- North East LA: Park restoration at @ascothillsparkla
- South East LA: River assessment testing at the LA River
- Venice: Gardening at @venicelearninggarden
- Santa Monica: Beach clean up and data collecting at SM Beach
