Congratulations to our Saint Ben's and Saint John's 2023 graduates! 🎓 Here is a spotlight of a Bennie moving on to grad school post-graduation! Meet senior Krista Korkowski! Krista is graduating with a major in nursing. After graduation, Krista will be continuing her education at Vanderbilt University pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialty in Nurse Midwifery. One of Krista’s most memorable experiences was traveling to Peru with her fellow classmates for a short-term immersion. “I learned so much more about myself and the people of Peru!” “I have met so many people at CSB+SJU and know that I have lifelong friends because of it. Congratulations to our Saint Ben's and Saint John's 2023 graduates! 🎓 Here is a spotlight of a Bennie moving on to a nursing career post-graduation! Meet senior Emma Dehne! Emma is graduating with a major in nursing. After graduation, she will be moving to Chicago, IL and working at Northwestern Medicine's Prentice Women's Hospital in their Hematology/Oncology Unit. “Recently, I traveled with other students from the Nursing department to Livingstone, Zambia to volunteer on medical projects and serve the local Zambian community. In this immersion, my eyes were opened to the hospitality, love, and community that was so abundant in Zambia. We spent our immersion providing home-based health care, clinic care, and primary prevention education. On the weekends, we experienced a wildlife safari, a boat cruise on the Zambezi River, and several hippo sightings! Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed broadening my worldview and I look forward to incorporating what I learned into my nursing practice.” “The past four years at CSB+SJU have taught me so much about myself, others, and the world around me. Throughout my college experience, I have created meaningful and lasting relationships with friends, classmates, professors, staff, and community members. Congratulations to our Saint Ben's and Saint John's 2023 graduates! 🎓 Here is a spotlight of a Bennie moving on to a nursing career post-graduation! Meet senior Emma Anderson! Emma is graduating with a major in nursing and after graduation, she will be working as a registered nurse starting in August at Mayo Clinic in Rochester in the cardiovascular intervention progressive care unit. This will also be participating a new grad nurse residency program where she will be able to get a certification in progressive care. Some of Emma’s most memorable experiences at Saint Ben’s and Saint John’s include the leadership opportunities she participated in, the study abroad immersion in Peru, being the vice president of the CSB+SJU nursing club, being a health advocate, participating in public health clinicals at Anna Marie’s, her senior capstone on acute care on Med 2 and long-term care at Knute Nelson Center and making life-long friends at CSB+SJU! “Being a Bennie has changed my view of the world. The sense of community will continue to be very special to me, and I plan to utilize my community in the future. Being a Bennie nurse has taught me how to become a good leader and how to use my attributes in my personal passions. Not only did I learn how to become a good nurse, but I learned how to be a better person. Hudson is graduating with a major in nursing and after graduation he plans to work as an RN at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. “In my four years at Saint Ben’s and Saint John’s I’ve learned how the Benedictine values apply to life. Whether it’s listening and understanding people’s perspective better or building community through great Johnnies and Bennies. I also had the opportunity to have an immersion experience in Livingstone, Zambia. It was amazing to not only learn the culture there, but also create friendships with the local people.” Hudson plans to return to school and become a Nurse Practitioner in the future. Alexis is graduating with a major in nursing and a minor in nutrition. After graduation, she will be working at M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, MN as an Registered Nurse on the Cardiovascular ICU. “I really enjoyed working at the CSB+SJU Bookstores during my 4 years at Saint Ben’s. I worked with some of the best people on campus who became like a second family. Congratulations to our Saint Ben's and Saint John's 2023 graduates! 🎓 Here is a spotlight of a Johnnie moving on to a nursing career post-graduation! Meet senior Jon VonBank! Jon is graduating with a major in nursing and after graduation he will be working in the medical intensive care unit at Abbott Northwestern. After gaining some experience, Jon plans to apply to a Doctoral School of Anesthesia to pursue a CRNA degree. Some of Jon’s most memorable experiences during his time at Saint Ben’s and Saint John’s include Study Abroad in St. Lucia, an internship in the Emergency Department at St. Cloud Hospital, undergraduate research related to rapid sequence intubations, participation in intramural hockey and tailgates before Johnnie football games. “I have gained an entirely new sense of the word "community" here at CSB+SJU. Makayla is graduating with a major in nursing. After graduation, she plans to spend the summer traveling and studying for the nursing boards before beginning her nursing career in August at Methodist Hospital (St. Louis Park) on their Oncology floor. “My time at CSB + SJU has been full of moments I'll forever cherish. I've had the incredible experience of learning every day through the nursing program, whether that was in the classroom, lab, simulation, or clinical. Being able to learn nursing concepts in the classroom, then go out into our clinical settings and practice those skills hands-on is something that has made me feel confident, prepared, and excited for my future. My all-time favorite nursing experience at CSB + SJU has been providing health care to the local community of Peru. While there, we screened hundreds of students for childhood stunting, provided education regarding healthy pregnancies and newborn care, and provided various health services to many families during home visits. Our time spent in Peru will forever go on to impact my nursing career, as I've learned the true importance of meeting patients where they're at and finding beauty in the world's differences.” “My experience as a Bennie has led me to strive for the best I can be. Every day, I'm surrounded by people that inspire me to love others, work hard, stay strong in my faith, and make an impact on those both inside and outside the CSB + SJU community. I'm especially grateful for the amazing people this school has placed in my life and the life-long friendships I've made. Celebrating Nurses Week and International Nurses Day! 🏥 Hear more about Saint Ben’s and Saint John’s holistic approach to nursing education from students in our Nursing Week celebration video! Students study in state-of-the-art facilities designed to mirror a hospital setting while getting hands-on experience in the surrounding community. All nursing students are also given a unique opportunity to complete a cultural immersion experience, either locally or by traveling internationally to destinations like Zambia, Saint Lucia and Peru. Beyond that, our students have numerous opportunities to grow through service and by taking on leadership roles as teaching assistants, tutors, and mentors to others. #csbsju #SaintBensSaintJohns #SaintBens #SaintJohns #nursesweek #internationalnursesday by @csbsjunursing
