Prioritising accessibility can transform key life moments, especially for expectant parents. From the very first scan to the delivery room parents should feel safe, informed and involved with the experience . Yet, a person with a vision impairment is forced to rely on a secondhand description rather than experiencing the moment for themselves.

How can we be more inclusive to help these parents feel prepared? From their baby’s first scan to their baby’s first cry?

I spoke to @blindandblonde_ about Guide Dog’s First Hello campaign that provides tactile baby sonograms to parents with a vision impairment offering them the opportunity to experience their baby’s features through touch for the first time.

If you or someone you know is a new parent with a vision impairment and wants an opportunity to experience their 20 week ultrasound beyond a photograph, click the link in my bio to find out more and sign up. AD

[Visual description: Reece, Sophy and Vic are sitting casually on a sofa in central London. Reece and Sophy are sat together on the left and Vic is on the right. Vic is wearing her nursing scrubs. Reece hands Vic a 3D sonogram of his 20 week scan and encourages Vic to feel the baby’s features including the toes and fingers.] #pregnant #accessibility #guidedog #csection #csectionrecovery by @csectionuk

Comment PREVIEW400 For our Nutrition chapter for FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!I see it all the time - women are told to be Nil by Mouth the night before their C-Section birth and they stop eating at around dinner time the night before their birth, rather than the actual starting point of their fasting timeframe

‌

When they do this they miss out on precious energy they could be banking

‌

You need all of the long acting energy you can get, your birth is going to be a LOT, so make sure you eat up until the fasting point begins. If that means a nearly midnight snack of toast then find your fave topping and go for it. You likely won’t be sleeping, so best to get that energy stored for the next day!

Long acting carbs slowly release glycogen and are the perfect support for your body when it’s fasting ESPECIALLY if you then face a delay in your birth
‌

\*What\* you eat matters though. We talk though pre and post-birth nutrition, microbiome, supplements and more in our new Nutrition chapters in both our Prep and Recovery video courses. Head there for our handy downloadable snack and meal plans as well so you know which elements to prioritise ahead of birth. #C-section #csectionrecovery #csectionmom #csectionmama #caesarean by @csectionuk

One for the birth partners. Because it’s your birth experience too, you were there, you were scared, or overjoyed or a bit of both. You likely look back on this day with big feelings. Maybe they’re sheer relief, maybe you’re suffering with a similar but different type of birth trauma. Maybe this day has shaped your relationship with your partner and your child. Maybe you’ve spoken about it, and maybe you havnt. But today I want you to know that you count too, you’re seen in this community, you matter. Comment a pic of your birth partner or tell me how they were on the day below #csection #birthpartner #csectionrecovery #csectionmom #csectionmama by @csectionuk

As a Midwife, I cringe at some of the advice floating around the interwebs about C-Section birth. It’s full of misinformation!

Here are **3 things I REALLY WISH women would stop doing** (no shame to them, there’s just so much confusion out there):

1️⃣ **Stop shaving before your C-section** 🪒 It increases your risk of scar infection. We show you safe pubic hair removal options, pre and post birth, in our video courses.

2️⃣ **Don’t stay still in bed after birth** 🛌 I know it feels safer, but staying rigid makes recovery harder and bowel pain worse. In our Recovery Course, I guide you through safe first movements and how to get up without hurting yourself (watch this BEFORE your birth and practise!).

3️⃣ **Stop panicking about peppermint tea** – Yes, research shows large amounts can affect milk supply… but you’d need 30 cups a day for it to be an issue! 1–2 cups can actually help your bowels post-surgery.

💬 Comment **COURSELINKS** and we’ll DM you the links to our Midwife-led video courses jam-packed with essential info to help you prepare, birth, and heal with confidence.

Comment SCARCHECK104 for our free guide

You’ll find this recommendation in NICE guidance but it remains something that many of you dm me about having never been told

Double tap if this was you? Surely everyone right ?

Would love to know everyone’s thoughts on this one

It is WILD to me that these things cause chronic pain, can impact fertility and even stop us breathing correctly as it affects posture and so many still don’t know about them

Full stop

What would you add?

I’ve been so excited to share this before and after C-section scar from one of our girls in the community, because LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE

It’s actually really hard to articulate just how much change can come from following a recovery plan step by step. Adding in essentials like scar massage, movement, silicone etc. I can talk about again and again but actually SEEING how much of a difference it makes is so important

Remember, CSUK’ers it’s like compound interest, small incremental changes every day amount to a huge difference over time. Commit to it, cherish and care for your body and it will take care of you.

This CSUK’er used our Recovery Programme AND @scarban_uk silicone

I’ll pop the link in stories - use code CSUK2025 for 10% off #csectionmama #csectionmum #csectionrecovery #csectionbirth #csectionscar aff by @csectionuk

I think that about sums it up… I ride at dawn for this community. So incase no one has told you, IM PROUD OF YOU. C-section mum, sat hunched over a scar, in pain but attempting that first public feed, I’m so damn proud of you. You’re not weird, or gross, you’re doing a phenomenal job despite what you’re managing rn. I’m not joking if I see anyone of you IRL you best believe I’m coming up to to say WELL DONE. God this one’s irked me, anyone else? #csection #csectionrecovery #csectionmom #csectionmama #breastfeeding by @csectionuk
