Don’t Wait Until October.

Schedule your mammogram.

Know your breasts. Check them every month.

Know your breast density.

And yes… if you have a significant other, let them get to know your breasts, too.

I’m only half joking.

Almost 16 years ago, my breast cancer wasn’t found by a mammogram. My annual mammogram was clear in February 2010. It was found by my boyfriend shortly after we started dating when he noticed a tiny lump the size of a pea in October 2010.

That moment changed—and ultimately saved—my life.

Today I completed my first screening breast MRI, followed by my annual mammogram. Because I have dense breast tissue, both screenings are now an important part of my annual care.

During today’s mammogram, I learned about @hologic partnership with @knowyourlemons - a global breast cancer charity focused on breast self-awareness, breast density education, and early detection.

I also discovered the free Know Your Lemons app, which includes guided self-exams, symptom tracking, and personalized screening plans. It’s a wonderful resource worth exploring.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Mary Wilde and the incredible team and the Dunn Breast Care Center for taking such wonderful care of me throughout my survivorship. And thank you to @scrippshealth for over 16 years of great care!

Don’t wait until October.

Know your breasts.

Know your breast density.

Advocate for yourself.

If this post encourages even one person to schedule a mammogram, understand their breast density, or advocate for additional screening when appropriate, it will have been worth sharing.
