Did you know 3D printing is helping make prosthetic limbs more affordable and customizable?

For many students, engineering starts with questions like this. Through hands-on projects and real-world examples, CSU engineering students are introduced to the many ways engineering can improve lives and solve complex challenges.

Hear from CSU biomedical and mechanical alumni Garrison Hayes about how he used his personal experience with prosthetics and knowledge of engineering concepts outside of the classroom. by @csu_bce

To our engineering students: now that the year is complete, take a moment to look back with appreciation for the relationships you’ve built, the late nights spent studying, and the moments you pushed through to finish that one especially difficult class.

Studying engineering is a lot like running a marathon. Start too fast, and burnout can catch up quickly. In every marathon, there are pacers, and throughout your journey, you’ve relied on the support people around you to help keep you moving forward.

Whether you’re graduating or just beginning your path, you’ve already made an impact. Someone in your circle sees your drive, determination, and resilience and takes inspiration from it.
Congratulations, CSU engineering students! by @csu_bce

Whether conducting impactful research or pursuing her passion for improving patient care, Sreya Karumanchi has fully embraced every opportunity at Colorado State University. Graduating with a degree in chemical and biological engineering, Sreya leaves CSU with big goals, a heart for service, and a drive to make a difference in medicine and healthcare through science and engineering.

One of the most influential experiences during her time at CSU was serving as a Presidential Ambassador. Sreya built meaningful connections with university leadership, students, and the Fort Collins community while developing both personally and professionally. She credits the passionate students and mentors she met through the program with inspiring her to show up as her best self in academics, involvement, and everyday life.

Sreya spent much of her undergraduate career involved in research, where she learned one of her most valuable lessons: growth often comes from stepping into unfamiliar and intimidating challenges. That mindset strengthened her resilience, deepened her problem-solving abilities, and ultimately reinforced her goal of becoming a physician or physician-scientist who can combine engineering, research, and healthcare to make a meaningful impact.

Her advice to future engineering students: ā€œMaintaining balance looks different for each person—it doesn't always look like equal parts shared across everything in your life. It's okay if you don't immediately have the balance that works for you!ā€ She also encourages students to make time for friends, family, and hobbies, emphasizing that recharging is just as important as academics.

After graduation, Sreya will continue pursuing research as a clinical research intern at Children’s Hospital Anschutz in the Center of Gait Analysis while preparing for a future career in medicine. Congratulations, Sreya! We can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make in healthcare and beyond. by @csu_bce

What began as uncertainty in a manufacturing lab evolved into an award-winning engineering journey for Tamsin Izard. Graduating from Colorado State University with a degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in biomedical engineering, Tamsin has distinguished herself as a leader, mentor, and innovator, earning the Colorado Engineering Council’s prestigious Silver Medal Award as one of the state’s top engineering graduates.

Tamsin credits one of her first manufacturing classes at CSU as a defining moment in her engineering journey. Initially intimidated by tools and machines, she quickly discovered a passion for hands-on engineering and building things from the ground up. ā€œI realized I could do hard things, and people wanted to help me succeed,ā€ she reflected, a mindset that would shape the rest of her college experience.

Throughout her time at CSU, Tamsin immersed herself in campus life and leadership opportunities. She served as treasurer for Tau Beta Pi, mentored first-year engineering students, helped organize the college’s cardboard boat race for more than 300 attendees, and participated in STEM 4 Kids to inspire younger students to explore engineering. Outside the classroom, she stayed active through intramural water polo, flag football, and soccer, embracing the balance between academics, leadership, and community.

Receiving the Colorado Engineering Council Silver Medal Award was an especially meaningful moment for Tamsin. ā€œI definitely have imposter syndrome sometimes, especially as a woman in engineering,ā€ she shared. ā€œBut this award is a huge confidence boost. It reminds me that I can do hard things, and people see that.ā€

After graduation, Tamsin will join Woodward in a management rotational program focused on operations leadership, supply chain, and process optimization. She is excited to combine her passion for hands-on engineering with her interest in leadership and innovation. Congratulations, Tamsin! We can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make in the engineering world and beyond.

From immersive clinical experiences to award-winning innovation, Jacqueline Oswald has made the most of her time at Colorado State University. Graduating with not one, but two Bachelor of Science degrees in biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering, Jacqueline leaves CSU with an impressive legacy of leadership, collaboration, and impact.

One of the most influential experiences during her time at CSU was participating in the Clinical Immersion Program, which helped shape her passion for improving patient care and directly inspired her senior design project. That passion, combined with valuable industry experience gained during her internship at Philips, fueled her drive to pursue a career in the medical device space.

Jacqueline’s senior design team earned first place in Biomedical Engineering at E-Days for their innovative project, Advancing Neonatal Video Laryngoscopy, an achievement she credits to the strength and teamwork of her group.

Her advice to future engineering students: ā€œStay organized and make sure to prioritize yourself. It’s important to study and turn in assignments, but it isn’t the end of the world if you fail a test, because setbacks can help you discover which study methods work best for you.ā€

This summer, Jacqueline will begin working at Highridge Medical in Westminster, where she hopes to continue developing technologies that make a meaningful impact on patients’ lives. Congratulations, Jacqueline! We can’t wait to see all that you accomplish next. by @csu_bce

The day after E-Days and we’re still thinking about the incredible innovation on display. Seniors, you truly knocked it out of the park.

For current and future students, this is what’s possible. This is what it looks like to take what you’ve learned and apply it in meaningful, tangible ways. It’s a reminder that the work you do here can, and will, extend far beyond campus.

We’re incredibly proud of the creativity, dedication, and purpose behind each project. The future is in good hands. by @csu_bce
