Introducing Andy Duron! @ilovetofart420

First Project: Veruca Salt. American Thighs. Vinyl and Liner Notes
Second Project: Arc’Teryx Winter 2025 Catalog

Helloo, my name is Andy Duron! I am honored and super excited to be part of the Spring ’28 cohort! My interest in graphic design began in high school after working with a team on my school’s yearbook. My room had always been covered in band posters. My infatuation with collecting CDs and flipping through their lyric books has never lessened. Having these types of designs around me sparked interest in the experimental side of design in music! I am excited to continue learning and receiving guidance in pushing my designs in risk-taking directions alongside my talented cohort! ∩^ω^∩

Veruca Salt. American Thighs. Vinyl and Liner Notes: I really enjoyed designing this project. The cover sets the tone for the liner notes; muted pinks and a warm beige background are consistent throughout. Aged paper texture, the ghost of script, and a soft vignette make up the background. Delicate, feminine visuals paired with angsty barbed wire create a juxtaposition, representing what women who embody a grunge style achieve daily.

Arc’Teryx Winter 2025 Catalog: an outdoor gear and clothing brand. Bold lime green was used for their logo. An attention-grabbing yet sleek design upholds the brand’s trendy, sought-after gear.

Introducing Ivy Liu! @iivy.liu @ivys.dzns

First Project: Billie Eilish Editorial
Second Project: Dublin Olympics Branding Concept

Hi everyone! My name is Ivy and I’m so excited and honored to be a part of the Spring 2028 cohort! I’ve been in love with graphic design ever since I started watching movies and TV shows; film posters and key art has always been a huge inspiration for me. I can’t wait to work together with my cohort, learn all we can from each other and expand my skills!

For my Billie Eilish Editorial, I used one of her interviews with Vanity Fair. Her album HIT ME HARD AND SOFT has blue as its main color and is a very bold album, both aesthetically and sonically, so I used blue and black duotones as the main effects and a thick sans serif font for the type. This brings it all together to show the boldness of both Billie’s album and her overall aesthetic and branding as an artist.

My fictional Dublin Olympics branding concept is centered around Ireland, my favorite country to visit. The city of Dublin has a very antique, classic look to it so I wanted to convey that in my project by making the color palette a bit more muted while still including the Olympic and Irish colors to make it visually striking. I incorporated the Celtic spiral, a symbol that represents the continuous journey of life and personal growth, into the five Olympic rings to use as the main logo. To make it a bigger, more cohesive system, I created extensions including posters, a pole banner, and a tote bag.

Introducing Kit Alegre! @kitanamae @kitterpillarr

Hello! My name is Kit Alegre, and I’m both honored and overjoyed to be in the Spring ’28 cohort with such amazing designers! I’m looking forward to growing alongside my peers and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone through the BFA program! :)
I have a background in traditional drawing and digital illustration, influenced by my love of early Internet culture, animation, movies, and tv shows. I also enjoy printmaking, painting, collage, and fiber arts, and I like incorporating these hands-on practices into my graphic design work.

Güdbar Packaging
Güdbar is my logo exploration and packaging rebrand concept for Bar-U-Eat, an existing granola bar brand. My goal was to highlight the brand’s sustainable, fun, and outdoorsy personality through compostable, plant-based packaging. Designed with families in mind, the packaging includes hand-illustrated adventurous animal characters in outdoor environments to make healthy eating more engaging for children. I used rounded linework, friendly sans-serif typefaces, and a vibrant yet grounded color palette to create a playful identity while emphasizing the natural and wholesome qualities of the product.

Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival Mailer-Poster
This project is designed as a two-in-one self-mailer for Half Moon Bay’s Art & Pumpkin Festival, unfolding into a larger promotional poster. My concept centers around the festival’s parade, with hand-illustrated characters dressed in costumes and uniforms to capture the fun, family-friendly atmosphere of fall. The main title, “Pumpkin Festival,” features custom serif hand-lettering with swashes to give it a whimsical, vintage feel. On the back, I continued the visual narrative with pumpkin imagery, vines, and leaves that I also vectorized myself. Overall, I wanted to create a playful, cohesive design that captures the spirit of the festival while keeping the layout functional and informative.

Introducing Gabby Say! ʚїɞ @psychedelicbutt3rfly

First Project: F1 Editorial — Monaco GP ’24
Second Project: Kinetic Type — “Give It to Me”

Hi everyone! My name is Gabby Say and I’m incredibly grateful to learn and work alongside this slay s’28 cohort! I’m so thrilled to explore different areas of graphic design, push myself creatively, and continue discovering my own voice as a designer.

F1 Editorial — Monaco GP ’24 🏎️. ݁₊ ⊹
This three-page editorial is inspired by Formula 1 and centered on Charles Leclerc’s 2024 Monaco Grand Prix win. My focus was to capture the speed, energy, precision, and visual atmosphere of racing. Drawing from Ferrari’s iconic colors and typographic language, I wanted to create a sense of movement across these static pages while emphasizing the significance of Leclerc’s victory.

Kinetic Type — “Give It to Me” 💿✮˚.⋆
This kinetic type piece pays homage to Timbaland’s “Give It to Me,” featuring Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake. I experimented with motion while limiting the visuals primarily to type, challenging myself to create interest without imagery and translating the energy of music into visual form. This led me to develop a grungier visual language inspired by the album and era of the song, using typography, color, and movement to respond to its rhythm and lyrics.

Introducing Vanessa Linares! @vanessa_a_linares

First Project: Sun-Spun Noodles
Second Project: Pink Floyd Editorial

Hi everyone, my name is Vanessa and I am honored to be part of the Spring 28’ cohort! As someone who knew nothing about graphic design before coming to CSULB, I knew I wanted to try as many new things as possible and have fun with it. Much of my artwork is artistically driven, some of which incorporate my own illustrations to achieve my exact vision. I am excited and eager to work with so many talented students and continue pushing my creative boundaries! :)

Sun-Spun Noodles, a rebrand for the Korean instant noodles brand, Chil-kap, utilizes hand-drawn illustrations to create a “handcrafted feel” representing their emphasis on organic ingredients and processes. This friendly and exciting design is reflective of the company’s values and history, where the illustrated approach puts a unique “spin” on the product name.

The Pink Floyd Editorial, birthed from artist block and scribbles of frustration, visualizes an unusual and morbid sound produced by the band. Hand-drawn illustrations are references to album covers and lyrics aligned with the idea of eccentricity. Experimentation with overlapping and offset typography represents flexibility and their non-uniform nature as artists.

Introducing Paige Tabada! @paipioca

First Project: Killer Hog Spice Packaging
Second Project: The Queen’s Gambit Dust Jacket

Haii ! ( ⸝⸝´꒳`⸝⸝) My name is Paige and I’m beyond excited to be part of the Spring ‘28 Cohort! I’ve always loved everything creative but really fell in love with graphic design in my first year of high school. Since then, graphic design has become my whole life (literally) !!!! Through my work, I aim to create bold and eye-catching designs that curate a visual experience for the viewer. I’m so stoked to work alongside my fellow cohort members during the course of this program, and look forward to the journey we’ll have together ( ◡̀ ̫ ◡́) ✧.

Killer Hog is a new and upcoming spice and BBQ rub brand, targeted towards young adults looking to spice up their grill skills! In terms of branding, I curated an intense, spirited, and textured look in order to highlight Killer Hog’s killer spice game. There are many textures layered throughout the design, both in the back and foreground. Moreover, I illustrated each animal to correspond with the bbq meat the spice is intended for. Placed on grocery store shelves across the nation, Killer Hog’s striking branding will cut through the noise and land itself right in a customer’s cart!

The Queen’s Gambit is an iconic story about orphan Beth Harmon and her extraordinary rise to the top of the competitive chess world. With this design, I chose to highlight the surreal atmosphere and energy of the story. Notably, I illustrated the drink, chess pieces, and pills, all of which play an important role in Beth Harmon’s story. In designing an updated dust jacket, I aim to both reach a new audience of readers and pay homage to the already classic story!

Introducing Keira Garcia! @komaedx_

First Project: Marine Life Posters
Second Project: Chase Atlantic “Angels” Kinetic Typography

Hello! My name is Keira and I am so excited to be a part of the spring 28 cohort ヽ(*・ω・)ノ
I have always loved art, especially illustration and digital mediums. It wasn’t until coming to CSULB that I started experimenting with graphic design. I quickly fell in love with just how many ways graphic design can be used and how expressive design can be. I am looking forward to developing my personal style, learning more about graphic design and all its applications, and getting to know everyone in my cohort!

My first project was a personal project based off of two of my favorite marine creatures.
I wanted these posters to be modern with lots of shapes, textures, and big typography that attracts attention. I wanted to incorporate the main colors of each creature alongside a complimentary color for cohesion (blue and orange, green and red). I decided to use small, easy to digest facts that go together and don’t disrupt the design I created.

My second project is a motion design piece featuring kinetic typography for the song Angels by Chase Atlantic. Angels is one of my favorite songs and the bridge of this song has always stuck out to me with its ethereal feeling. My goal with this piece was to capture the feeling I got when listening to this song visually, while giving the lyrics life through animation. I used a space theme combined with a serif typeface to capture the otherworldly tone of the song. Additionally, I added moving icons to fill the frames with no lyrics or to add to the theme I created.

Introducing Nina Laxamana! @ninalxmna

Hi! My name is Nina Laxamana and I’m excited to be part of the SP28 Graphic Design cohort and work alongside some amazing designers here at CSULB!

First Project: Paradise Point Hotel Rebrand/Identity System
Second Project: Manila Spice Packaging Label

The Paradise Point Hotel is a resort in San Diego, CA that serves as a quiet getaway on a private island in close proximity to many sight seeing locations, mixing relaxation with exploration. With this rebrand, I created an identity system that mixes a modern feel with a beachy style using custom typography, pops of red within a calm color palette, and linework that portrays a coastal feel.

Manila Spice is a Filipino spice blend brand inspired by the flavors and culture of the Philippines. Each of the blends encapsulates the flavor of traditional Filipino cuisine, and is named after locations in the Philippines. The packaging system uses a color palette and iconography inspired by the national flag, and to differentiate each of the blends, meaningful and traditional Filipino tattoo patterns wrap around each bottle to add another layer of culture to the brand’s design.

Introducing Maya Taff! @maya_taff

First Project: Chinese Restaurant Rebranding “Pearl House”
Second Project: George Clanton “Slide” Album Concept

Hi everyone! My name is Maya. I moved from Northern California to pursue the BFA program at Long Beach, and I couldn’t be more excited to start this journey w/ our awesome cohort! I’ve always loved art and music, so my dream is to work in the music industry designing album covers for artists. :D

PEARL HOUSE: This project rebranded the traditional Chinese restaurant Pearl House to make it bold, contemporary, and more appealing to a younger audience. The original imagery included hand-drawn illustrations, which I wanted to take a step further by illustrating a logo. I chose a tiger for the main element of the logo as a symbol of bravery and strength in Chinese tradition to create a more dynamic representation of the restaurant. I also stuck with the original red, while adding black and cream for a more striking contrast. In this project, the branding would expand past the design of food packaging itself but also into merch such as tote bags and shirts.

SLIDE: With this project, we were tasked with redesigning any album cover of our choice, and I chose the album “Slide” by George Clanton (which is one of my favorite albums). It has a very digital, vaporwave feel, which I wanted to emulate through code typography, a cool-toned palette, and implementing ASCII art into the spreads. The album also explores themes of growing up, longing, and nostalgia, so I included imagery relating to childhood and the motif of the deer to represent the innocence of adolescence.
