Dr. Catherine Bain joins the Department of Psychology as an Assistant Professor this fall.

Dr. Bain earned her Ph.D. in Quantitative Psychology from the University of Oklahoma, where her research focused on machine learning approaches to variable selection, measurement invariance, and differential item functioning. Her work has appeared in journals including Human Brain Mapping and the Journal of Behavioral Data Science.

Dr. Williams’ research explores how educational environments shape ethnic-racial identity development and academic outcomes among adolescents and young adults.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Abby Saavedra (she/her), an incoming Assistant Professor of Developmental Psychology. Dr. Saavedra’s research focuses on the racialized and politicized processes and contexts that support positive development and wellbeing for Asian Americans and youth of color.

Her work as a psychologist is deeply rooted in her identity as a Filipina American daughter of immigrants and in her community organizing experiences with Filipinx Americans and students of color in California and Arizona. Prior to joining CSUN, Dr. Saavedra earned her Ph.D. from Arizona State University and was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Please welcome Dr. Jordan Rubin-McGregor, an incoming Assistant Professor starting in the Fall 2026 Semester.

Dr. Rubin-McGregor’s research focuses on disability, social identity, and stigma, exploring the benefits of group identity and ways to challenge ableism. Outside of her academic work, Dr. Rubin-McGregor likes to bake, read, and teach her cats tricks.
