When Dracula invites you backstage, you say yes. 🧛

Last night’s performance of @ColoradoStateTheatre’s “Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy, Really” by Kate Hamill, directed by CSU Associate Professor of Theatre Saffron Henke, was wonderfully frightful. So proud of the students, faculty and staff who brought “Dracula” to life for two spectacular weekends.

Many of CSU’s productions are almost entirely student-produced, something not all theatre programs offer — more than 50 students worked on this production alone. This means our students get endless opportunities for hands-on learning throughout their time at CSU, setting them up for success as they begin thinking about their creative careers and graduate school.

Thank you to our Dracula Hollis Andrew, our Drusilla Bolu Saliu, stage manager Bella Conahan and production manager Matt Grevan for the backstage tour before the play. Loved learning what it takes to stage a show like “Dracula,” from building and moving props to the manual turntable, lighting and projections, costume changes and even what the fake blood is made of and how it’s stored.

There are only a handful of tickets left for the final performances this weekend. But there’s always something to attend at the University Center for the Arts, so check out the calendar of events in @CSUAmyParsons’ bio link. taken in Colorado State University Center for the Arts by @csusmtd

CSU dance education took the national stage!

Faculty and students recently traveled to Albuquerque for the National Dance Education Organization Conference, where every session they submitted was accepted for presentation.

Their work explored topics ranging from dance as a pathway to language acquisition and student-teacher collaboration to community partnerships and new models connecting higher education with the communities it serves.

By sharing their work and learning alongside dance educators from across the country, CSU faculty and students are contributing to the conversations, connections and ideas that move dance education forward.

Congratulations to our CSU dance education presenters! by @csusmtd

Vampires…the blood sucking creatures that have continuously fascinated the public to this day. Nosferatu, What We Do in the Shadows, and Sinners are just a few examples of the resurgence of vampire media. Now, Fort Collins is getting its own fanged double feature based on Bram Stoker’s iconic novel. Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy, Really, by Kate Hamill presented by Colorado State University Theatre, and Dracula by Steven Dietz presented by OpenStage Theatre and Company.

Read a story by Eliza Domingos (playing CSU’s Mina) about the two Dracula productions taking place in Fort Collins this fall and the fun social media collaborations currently running. Story link in bio.

Come see Colorado State University’s production of Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy, Really, at the University Center for the Arts from October 2-11, and OpenStage’s production of Dracula, at The Magnolia Theatre in the Lincoln Center from October 31 – November 28.

What does it mean to become America?

This fall, CSU musicians are marking the nation’s 250th anniversary by exploring that question through music, bringing stories of identity, migration, belonging, resistance and cultural exchange to the concert stage.

At the center is Rose Wollman’s “Becoming America,” a new album featuring five newly commissioned works by composers from historically marginalized communities. Wollman received a $7,000 CSU Democracy Small Grant to support the album’s recording and release.

Oct. 7 | Becoming America
Wollman joins soprano Anne Slovin and pianist Hyeji Seo for the album’s free release concert, featuring music by Francisco Cortes Alvarez, Rene Orth, Nailah Nombeko, Cris Derksen and Tamuz Nissim.

And there’s more:
Oct. 8 | 1876 — Wind Symphony celebrates Colorado’s 150th anniversary and the people, history and culture that shaped the Centennial State.

Oct. 12 | The American Soundscape — Faculty artists explore the many traditions, journeys and voices that have shaped American music, from Florence Price and Chickasaw composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate to immigrant composer Sergei Rachmaninoff.

Oct. 13 | From Sea to Shining Sea — Symphonic Band celebrates both Colorado’s 150th and America’s 250th with music spanning the American landscape.

Oct. 15 | Arts of Resistance: Music as Movement — University Symphony Orchestra explores music as witness, protest, hope and collective action, including Margaret Bonds’ musical response to the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

Together, these concerts offer different ways to listen to the American story — and consider whose voices shape it.
