Beginning this week, you may notice a new ofrenda in the Hydro lobby. An ofrenda is a traditional Día de los Muertos altar, built to honor and welcome home loved ones who have passed. Marigolds, candles, favorite foods, and photos help invite them to stay a while.

This weekend's 2nd Saturday celebrates Día de los Muertos with a day full of live music and activities from the @csuspurmusiclab, a community food drive that will become a Canstruction sugar skull, papel picado artwork, a concha giveaway, and tastes of traditional dishes with @csuextension, who will share the story of the crops behind them — all that and so much more!

The details 👇

🗓️ Saturday, October 10th
⏰ 10am to 2pm
📍 4777 National Western Dr

As always, our 2nd Saturdays are sponsored by our friends and partners at @canvasfamily A Día de los Muertos ofrenda display with marigolds, candles, fruit, photos, and a sign explaining the altar. by @csuspur

I had SUCH a blast celebrating @coloradostateuniversity Homecoming at last night's Festival on the Oval! I got to catch up with so many friends, show off some science, and hang with my season 2 pals from @musclesalive for some super fun demos!

We've got some really exciting things in the works for future Wiz Kid episodes, so stay tuned for more info coming soon 👀🔬 A smiling person in a white lab coat, clear safety glasses, and an orange bandana hands a sticker across a Wiz Kid table to a smiling woman in a magenta tank top holding a notebook. The table has a starry blue tablecloth reading "Always learning something," with stickers, buttons, and brochures on top. Colorado State University tents and a crowd are visible on the lawn behind them. by @csuspur

It was a big year for impact at the @csuspur campus in Denver. The campus brought together 111,677 people during the last fiscal year, connected dozens of researchers and industry partners, served as a hub for discovery, and launched a new program for undergraduates to begin their educational journey at CSU.

It's all part of Spur's larger goal of fulfilling CSU's land-grant mission by connecting people, accelerating innovation and motivating transformation.

"CSU Spur has proved that it has the remarkable ability to be the nexus of activity around food, water and health through a multi-dimensional approach. Our work in research spaces, educational impact and community engagement is intertwined in a way that is unique within higher education. We don't work in silos at Spur — we strive to be a collaboration center where we all see our work contributing to the collective."
 — Michelle Stanley, Chief Academic Officer

Last week, we got to host a pretty cool tour group, a cohort of veterinarians from across Japan who flew in to learn about @humanecolorado, our campus, and the partnership we share in having donor-subsidized vet care for the community on display for learners and observers alike.

Over the course of their visit, the group explored Humane Colorado's operations both at Spur and downtown, along with a full day on the Spur campus. Chief Academic Officer Michelle Stanley, who led the tour, says her favorite moment came when a group of high school students watched a surgery on a dog alongside the visiting veterinarians. By the time they left, the delegation was ready to build a Spur of their own! Seven visitors sit side by side on a wooden bench along a rooftop garden, smiling at the camera. Sunflowers and wildflowers bloom behind them, and a large green Colorado State University ram logo is mounted on the brick building in the background. by @csuspur

Here at the leasable labs in the Hydro Building, Katie Weimer leads GenesisTissue's work developing 3D-printed scaffolds that help breast cancer patients regrow their own natural tissue after surgery. As founder and CEO, she's using cutting-edge bioprinting technology to reimagine post-mastectomy reconstruction so patients can heal using the body's own regenerative power instead of permanent implants.

Katie doesn't just build the technology — the work carries a deeper resonance for her. Having lost her mother to breast cancer at a young age, that experience gives added meaning to scaffolds designed to safely dissolve once the body's healing is complete, offering patients a path to recovery that feels more natural and less permanent.

As a leasable lab tenant at CSU Spur, the GenesisTissue team has found something you don’t normally find in a typical biotech startup space — an open, collaborative environment where researchers work alongside other cross-discipline professionals and visiting learners. Katie reflected on how different that is from other startup lab settings and how being part of Spur's community has shaped the way GenesisTissue grows.

Spur Staff 🤝 Spur Start Students

At the start of each year, we host a casual meet-and-greet where Spur Start students can chat with campus staff, researchers, and leadership. It’s a chance for everyone to get to know each other, strengthen our growing community and for students to hear about work and internship opportunities across campus.

It's one of the ways Spur Start helps students learn through real work, explore career paths, and find their place on campus. Rams got a firsthand look at the incredible work happening at the Temple Grandin Equine Center at CSU Spur during last night’s Alumni Night Out.

From touring the facility and meeting the horses to trying on “horse glasses” to see the world from a horse’s perspective, Rams experienced how CSU is advancing health, wellness and human-animal connections.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for an unforgettable night! 🐴
