October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), a time to honor survivors, uplift advocates, and reaffirm our shared responsibility to create safer, healthier Native communities.

This year, CSVANW's Cycle Breakers Since 1492 campaign recognizes the strength and resilience of Native advocates who have worked across generations to protect our relatives, preserve our cultures, and break cycles of violence.

Throughout October, we're moving beyond awareness. We'll share culturally grounded resources, survivor stories, prevention education, and opportunities to take action.

Whether you join a training, participate in the I Will Run for Them 5K, share a resource, or start a meaningful conversation, your actions matter.

Together, we can break cycles, protect our relatives, and build a future where every Native person can live with safety, dignity, and belonging.

Healthy Families. Healthy Communities.

Today, on the National Day of Remembrance for US Indian Boarding Schools, we honor the Native children who were taken from their families and communities, the children who never returned home, the survivors who endured these institutions, and the generations who continue to carry their impacts

For generations, Indian boarding school policies sought to forcibly assimilate children by separating them from their families, languages, cultures, identities, and way of life.

The US Department of the Interior has identified 417 federal Indian boarding school institutions across 37 states or then-territories. Its investigation has documented at least 973 child deaths and 74 marked or unmarked burial sites at 65 school sites

These are more than numbers. They represent children, families, communities, and generations whose stories deserve to be remembered.

September 30 is also recognized as Orange Shirt Day, reminding us that Every Child Matters and calling us to honor survivors, descendants, families, the children who never made it home

The work toward truth and healing continues. Efforts such as the proposed Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding School Policies seek to further investigate and document this history, understand its lasting impacts, and advance recommendations for healing and accountability

At CSVANW, we know that acknowledging historical trauma is connected to creating safer futures. Breaking cycles of violence also means confronting the systems and histories that disrupt Native families, communities, cultures, and ways of caring for one another.

Today and every day, we hold our survivors, ancestors, and relatives close.

We see you. We honor you. We remember you.
Wear orange.
Learn the history.
Listen to survivors.
Support Native-led healing.
Remember the children. by @csvanw

✨CSVANW in the community✨

CSVANW was honored to offer the land acknowledgement and opening prayer at the Women’s Economic Summit, hosted by the New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women on Saturday, September 26, at Isleta Resort & Casino.

We were grateful to begin the gathering by honoring the land, our ancestors, and the women creating opportunities for our communities.

Thank you NM Commission on the Status of Women for inviting CSVANW to attend and to be a part of this year’s agenda once again! by @csvanw

CSVANW was honored to host its third and final Community Care Day of the year on the beautiful lands of Santa Ana Pueblo. Community Care Days were created to support our valued CSVANW members and provide opportunities for rest, healing, connection, and restoration.

We recognize that our members are on the front lines every day, serving Native survivors, families, and communities while sharing CSVANW's mission and commitment to ending violence against Native women and children.

This two-day wellness experience began with a welcome dinner at Santa Ana Star Casino, followed by an overnight stay at the hotel. The evening provided participants with an opportunity to relax, connect with one another, and enjoy time together outside of their everyday responsibilities.

The following morning, participants and CSVANW staff traveled to the Stables at Tamaya, where members enjoyed a 90-minute guided horseback riding experience. Participants learned how to safely handle their horses, practiced riding commands, and developed meaningful connections with these gentle rescue horses. Watching participants build trust and confidence alongside their horses was truly a beautiful experience.

After lunch, members chose between a relaxing massage or a rejuvenating facial at the beautiful Tamaya Resort & Spa. This time was intentionally set aside to encourage rest, healing, and self-care, providing participants with an opportunity to step away from the demands of their daily work and focus on their own well-being.

As we close out our third Community Care Day, CSVANW proudly celebrates our membership. Our members include survivors, advocates, organizations, and Tribal communities who work tirelessly to support Native relatives and create safer, healthier communities. The work you do is challenging, compassionate, and essential, and we recognize the strength and resilience you bring to it every day.

Thank you to our CSVANW members for being part of this journey with us.
If you are not yet a member and would like to learn more about the benefits of joining the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women, we invite you to visit www.csvanw.org for more information. by @csvanw

On International Equal Pay Day, CSVANW recognizes the ongoing wage disparities that impact Native communities. Native women, and LGBTQ2S+ relatives often face multiple barriers to economic equality, including systemic inequality, and limited access to supportive resources.

Equal pay is an important part of addressing the root cause of gender-based violence and promoting community well-being. Ensuring fair compensation and economic opportunity is essential to creating pathways toward safety and justice.

CSVANW remains committed to uplifting Native voice, advocating for equal policies, and supporting survivors through community-led solutions. by @csvanw
