Blood Drive in Memory of Trisha & Katie Vayda A memorial blood drive is scheduled for Friday, October 23, at the Shaker Pines Fire Department, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., as a tribute to the lives & impact of Trisha & Katie Vayda. Trisha began her nursing career in the ER at Middlesex Hospital, then St. Francis Hospital, before joining the Enfield Public School System, where she became the district's nursing supervisor. She was also a community volunteer, remembered for her compassion, leadership, and service. Trisha passed away earlier this year at the age of 72. Katie, Trisha’s daughter, died after a failed heart transplant in 1996, just prior to her starting her senior year at Enfield High School. Support the Vayda family at this blood drive by giving the gift of life and remembering two individuals who made a difference in the lives of everyone they touched. Sign up here or on your Red Cross app! Sponsor code: IHO Katie and Trisha Vayda https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/donation-time?dt=WB:PL:DR:PM&zipSponsor=&driveType=all by @ct58staterep
The Connecticut Department of Transportation has announced that temporary on- and off-ramp closures are required for pavement preservation activities that will be performed in East Windsor and #Enfield along I-91 North and South ramps at Exits 45-49 for four weeks beginning Monday, October 12. The project also consists of guardrail replacement and upgrade, cleaning catch basins, and curb installation. Temporary closures will occur nightly, Monday through Thursday, from 8 pm. to 5 a.m. Only one ramp will be closed at a time. Electronic message boards and detour signage will direct motorists. Traffic control signing patterns, state and local police, and flaggers will guide motorists through the work zone and associated detours. The Connecticut State Department of Education is awarding approximately $6.2 million in state grants to 29 school districts through the Learner Engagement and Attendance Program (LEAP), continuing Connecticut’s investment in a research-based approach to improving student attendance and engagement. I am pleased that #Enfield is receiving $108,672 in grant funding. Since LEAP was established in 2021, Connecticut’s chronic absenteeism rate has declined from 23.7% in 2021–22 to 16.4% in 2025–26, meaning nearly 35,000 more students attend school regularly now than four years ago. Through LEAP, trained school staff and community partners work directly with students and families to build relationships, identify barriers to regular attendance, and connect families with resources that can help students attend school consistently. Since the program launched, home visitors have conducted approximately 88,000 home visits and reached approximately 53,000 students. by @ct58staterep
