🧑🏽‍🏫 For today's FAQ session: How to donate to CTAOP or create a fundraiser right here on Instagram!

Because we at CTAOP have a fiscal sponsor (@eifoundation), donating to us via Facebook or Instagram means just a few additional hoops to jump through. So, we thought we'd lay it all out for ya in a post that you can *SAVE* and refer back to if and when the time comes that you want to donate or create a fundraiser (maybe in honor of your birthday, or World AIDS Day, or International Women's Day... you get the gist ;)

The two ways to fundraise for CTAOP on Instagram:

1. Create a post on your feed | Click the "+" button on the top right of your profile, and select "Fundraiser" from the drop down. Search and select "Entertainment Industry Foundation" (@eifoundation), and change the fundraiser's name to include CTAOP. Add a photo, share what supporting CTAOP means to you in your caption, set a goal, and publish!

2. Create a Story using the donation sticker | Start building your story by choosing a photo or image to use, or select the text only option by clicking "Create". Head to the donation sticker, search and select "Entertainment Industry Foundation" (@eifoundation), change the fundraiser's title to include CTAOP, set a goal, and share!

We've seen a serious uptick in CTAOP/ Charlize Theron scammer questions from you all in the past month, so it seemed like it was about time for a refresher:

🙅🏼‍♀️ No, you're not talking to @charlizeafrica on [insert Instagram, Whatsapp, Telegram, Signal, Google Chat, literally ANY digital communications platform]!

🙅🏾 No, we ONLY use our and @charlizeafrica’s verified socials (look for the blue checkmark on FB and IG, on Twitter we are @ctaop and @charlizeafrica) and *no other accounts, no exceptions!*

🙅🏽‍♀️ No, no one from CTAOP or Charlize Theron's management team is contacting you soliciting your info or donations!

We appreciate you. We love you. Please be safe out there, be discerning, ***NEVER*** give your personal or financial info to anyone claiming to be CTAOP or CT (or any other celebrity for that matter!) unless it's from verified channels, and continue to refer to our pinned post + FAQ highlight reel here on Instagram should you have questions.

It's deeply unfortunate how rampant scammers and imposters are online –– this is an issue that all public facing individuals and brands face, and unfortunately there's nothing we can sweepingly do to handle it as each platform has its own protocol! So as you see these accounts, please help us by reporting them to each respective platform, and do not engage. by @ctaop

When there’s a need and a fit, at the end of their year embedded with our Program Partners we LOVE seeing members of CTAOP’s Youth Leaders Fellowship transition from YL Fellow to full time staffer 🌱 The opportunity to continue growing and serving within those organizations is not always available, but former YL Fellow Ziyanda is now both a Program Officer at CTAOP Program Partner @uthingonetwork –– AND in posession of a Higher Certificate in Counseling and Communication Skills!! Ziyanda is also currently completing a Higher Certificate in Paralegal Studies, which will complement the advocacy work that Uthingo Network does.

In reflecting on their year as a YL Fellow, Ziyanda shared how it “truly empowered me to believe in myself and how good of a leader I can become.”

Keep climbing, Ziyanda!!! 💛 by @ctaop

CTAOP’s Program Partners – community-based organizations across Southern Africa – are finding ‘Hope in Action’, despite the many systemic challenges the young people they work with in their communities face. Watch to hear reflections directly from our Partner leaders at this year’s #SwidlerSummit on the incredible work they do, the mutuality of our relationships –– and the irreplaceable, life-affirming power of having someone believe in you 💛

CTAOP strengthens the health and safety of young people in Southern Africa to unleash their power and potential. We support locally-led organizations because transformative change comes from communities themselves.

Another #CTAOPBlockParty @UniversalStudiosLot on the books –– and dare we say this was the most fun, most connected, most meaningful one yet. Our CTAOP community turned UP and turned OUT for a night full of music, connection, fundraising, and impact 🫶🏾 🫶🏻 🫶🏿

Siphosihle, one of the alumni recipients of our Youth Leaders Scholarship, spoke of how “being [a] black, gender-nonconforming, female-bodied, working class individual in South Africa proves to be a struggle in many fronts,” and “the many forms of violence we have to navigate on a daily basis.” They spoke of the violence occurring right now in South Africa, where simply jogging as a woman can cost you your life. It rooted the whole night in the WHY of it all: what – and who – we’re raising these funds for.

And it would be an understatement to say our community rose to the occasion –– they absolutely smashed it. We raised over $1 Million that will go towards supporting community-based organizations in Southern Africa and the young people they serve.

We also had a blast. @Kidcudi absolutely electrified the crowd. Food and beverage sponsors like @CurtisStoneEvents, @cutwaterspirits, and @eatbettersour provided the nosh and the fun. And a massive thank you to @Dior, @sharksrugby, @universallotevents, @CreativeArtistsAgency, and @Bloomberg who quite literally made this event possible.

CTAOP’s work only happens because of the support of our community –– every sponsor, Partner, young person, donor, attendee, and ALL OF YOU by following and uplifting. #CTAOPIsBecauseWEAre

If you’re able, give what you can to help us keep the momentum of this amazing night going: charlizeafricaoutreach.org/?form=CTAOP (link in bio)

In November 2025, gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) was declared a national disaster in South Africa.

Hear us when we say: NOTHING HAS CHANGED.

We don’t need thoughts, we don’t need prayers, we don’t need declarations.

We need action. CTAOP’s Program Partners are on the front lines against gender-based violence day in and day out, and we will continue to fund and stand with them until the lives of women, children, and queer people are no longer in danger. by @ctaop

Back in August, ahead of our biennial #SwidlerSummit, we spent five meaningful days traveling from Cape Town to East London, to Durban and Pietermaritzburg, visiting seven of our Program Partners: @philisaabafazibethu, @vaulinstitute, Small Projects Foundation, Bumb’INGOMSO @bingomso, Isibani Law and Therapy Centre, @uthingonetwork, and Community HealthCare Solutions @chs_kzn.

Spending time witnessing the work our Partners do, particularly ahead of a restorative reset like Swidler Summit, roots everything we do – every intention we set – in the ‘WHY’ of it all. It reinforces how alive hope is through all their actions, and the way in which they nurture, support, and uplift their communities. And how deeply they deserve to be nurtured, supported, and uplifted, too.

A throughline between the visits – something all our Partners are constantly experiencing – is how deeply rooted the systemic issues they’re working against are, and how their communities face barrier after barrier. At Isibani, one CTAOP team member was struck by how many steps are involved in a GBV survivor receiving help – translating to how many places they could be let down by the system. At Uthingo, we joined a workshop with university learners using the illustration of a tree to symbolize how leaves represent the visible symptoms of an issue, the trunk is where those symptoms develop from, and the roots are the underlying systems.

This is why site visits matter so much — spending time in person with Program Partners not only deepens our understanding of what they face and what they and their communities need, but also inspires us to look at our collective work in new ways. It enables us to exist beyond reports, numbers, and updates, and continually strengthens the bond and trust in our relationship. We know those closest to the problems are closest to the solutions, so it’s critical that we consistently show up and learn from those communities.

Much more to come!

🔥 “The Nonprofit Industrial Complex Will Not Save Us” 🔥

On the Daughter of African Sun’s substack this month, activist @yasbens takes the nonprofit sector to task, breaking down how it’s being propped up by white supremacy, scarcity culture, and keeping young people + people of color trapped in the system of need.

As much as we can, CTAOP works to exist outside of the traditional philanthropic structure, and to usher those around us into a new model, too. Our partnerships with our Program Partners are built on long-term, flexible funding – through the safety and comfort of financial security, they can focus more energy on deeper program impact, and less on fundraising panic and reporting.

As Yasmina notes, “the sector is not short on passionate people, it is short on honesty about how the money actually moves and who it was built to protect.” We’re doing all we can to change that.

CTAOP hosted our biennial #SwidlerSummit earlier this month in South Africa’s Gauteng province ☀️ Every other year, we bring together all our Program Partner leaders for a week of deep restoration outside of their everyday lives and the work they pour themselves into. Because as one of @agahozoshalom Youth Village’s leaders noted this Summit, “you cannot give what you do not have.”

The week was filled to the brim with connection, learning, and healing. In between sessions on psychological safety in the workplace and trust-based relational intervention, our longtime partners @my.online.therapist – who help make this convening as special as it is – led activities that encouraged the regulation of everyone’s nervous systems, like mindful walks and lessons on sleep hygiene. One of the most meaningful sessions of the week was a collective honoring through creative art of our beloved Dr. Paul Cromhout, the founder of our Program Partner Small Projects Foundation, who passed on earlier this year.

As we reflect on and process our third Summit, what continues to crystalize for us is how absolutely critical and valued these kinds of safe spaces and convenings are for those whose life’s work entails supporting others. It’s a true honor to get to support them in this way –– we can’t wait to share more of this magic.

Last month, the annual @iasociety Conference #AIDS2026 took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where former CTAOP Program Partner HIVSA had the opportunity to share South African research on a global stage. HIVSA’s recent study explores the barriers preventing young people from accessing sexual and reproductive health services—and the types of support they would prefer.

Some major learnings:
〰️ shyness and embarrassment, stigma and fear, and the attitudes of service providers remain significant barriers to care
〰️ 70% of the young people surveyed indicated that they would prefer online or digital consultation methods

The study reinforces the importance of confidential, accessible and non-judgmental services designed *WITH* young people — not simply for them –– and highlights the potential of youth-led approaches, mobile clinics and technology-enabled support to improve trust and service uptake. taken in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil by @ctaop
