It was never a question of if I’d be stress eating today, but simply how much will I stress eat... #vote #vote2020 #CTEATS taken in Camille's Wood Fired Pizza by @cteatsout

#AsAnAllyIWill is a call to action campaign started by @mgonzz at last night’s protest in West Hartford. She invites all of you to use the hashtag and proclaim what you, as an ally will do to help the Black community.
As an ally I have failed. This blog was started as way to get people out of their comfort zone (or the same four restaurants they always went to) and to introduce people to a DIVERSE variety of food businesses across the state. As time went on I fell back into my own comfort zone and this diverse coverage dwindled. There has been little to no coverage of Black owned businesses on this blog and for that I am sorry. I’m sorry that I didn’t give you the same amount of exposure as your white colleagues. Change begins today. If you click the link in my bio you’ll be led to a blog post of Black-owned restaurants that you should support. It unsurprisingly is a hard thing to research (part of that blame lies on me) so if your favorite restaurant is missing, please comment below, or DM me and I’ll be sure to add them. And from here on out this is what you can expect of me:

As an ally I will...
-be actively and vocally anti-racist
-listen
-pledge more of my time and resources to the coverage of Black-owned businesses
-use my platform to amplify Black voices at my events, on my blog and on my social feeds
-put my money where my mouth is and spend $$$ at black-owned businesses
-acknowledge my privilege
-donate when I can
-continue to educate myself

And a big thank you to @briannaaa21 and @nasmediiia for their help in compiling this list! #CTEATS taken in West Hartford, Connecticut by @cteatsout

🆘 please read: after 8pm tonight restaurants in CT are closed to dine-in customers, and can only offer delivery or take out. Coronavirus has already made a huge impact on our food and beverage industry, with many businesses seeing a major decrease in sales and being forced to cut staff and hours. A number of restaurants have closed their doors for the time being. Others are attempting to stay open for as long as they can given the circumstances. Industry workers are finding themselves out of work, and there is a very real chance that some of these small restaurants won’t financially be able to reopen. The thriving food industry in Connecticut that we know may look very different after this all passes. I don’t say these things to alarm you, but rather to ask for help. The first concern is obviously everyone’s safety and health during this pandemic. While we’re social distancing there are ways that you can help the businesses- and people behind those businesses.
1. Buy gift cards! It’s a great way to support a place you love while keeping your distance.
2. Shop local! There are tons of locally owned markets across the state with fully stocked shelves. Link in bio to a list of some of my favorites.
3. If you’re comfortable doing so, order takeout and delivery. It will help keep staff employed, restaurants open, and, you won’t have to cook. Link in bio for a running list of places offering takeout and delivery across the state. (I’m updating it as quickly and as often as I can.)
4. Buy merch! Lots of restaurants and bar sell cool tshirts, hats, tote bags etc. If you’ve been eyeing one, now is the time to buy it. Link in bio to see some that are available.
I understand that not everyone can financially support everything- especially in these times. If you’re unable to do any of the above I ask that you share this post, or the link to one of my blog posts so that we can get as many people informed as possible.
Businesses- if there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. Hoping we can all get through this together ❤️ #CTEATS taken in Maruichi Japanese Food & Deli West Hartford by @cteatsout
