It Was Never Just Me
2026

Created around the idea that none of us become who we are alone. The hands weaving the braid represent the people, lessons, love and experiences that shape us.. often quietly, and sometimes across generations.

Hair became the focal point because of the importance it holds within our culture; a mark of identity, tradition and the connection between generations.

The figures in the background are memories: a reminder of those who came before, those who poured into us, and the village that continues to exist within us.

This piece was created for It Takes a Village and I’m so happy it has now found a home. 🖤 by @cth.studio

Black Creative Trailblazers 2026 🖤

A few weeks ago, I came across an open call for artists centred around the theme It Takes a Village. I applied, and was selected to have my work exhibited at Aviva Studios.

There was something really special about seeing my work in that space, surrounded by so many talented Black creatives and such a beautiful celebration of Black talent, creativity and community.

The theme felt especially fitting too. So much of my work is rooted in the people, stories and experiences that shape us! the reminder that none of us really get where we are entirely on our own.

Days like this remind me why it’s so important to keep creating, keep showing up and keep putting yourself forward for the things you want.

You never know what one application might lead to.

Grateful for the experience, proud of the work, and excited for what comes next. 🖤
