Obviously this is a rip off of Gil Scott-Heron #therevolutionwillnotbetelevised

A poem by melvis, as I understand you can buy his book. You'd be better off asking @robmasonpoet where you can get it.

The captions probably need fixing but I'm not donating an hour of my time, rage and frustration to meta in order to do it. by @cthuluson

Recent fun tree stuff. (Well perhaps not for the old beech)

A wallnut, juglus regia (or something like that) Really haven't seen so many examples of this, nice tree, the green nut casing fall readily and it's not very strong

Ivy removal from a telegraph pole... Really take a look. I once had an argument with someone at uni, I boldly stated ivy is not a tree and had various reasons. Nathan, I take it back buddy you were right.
That one got two pictures

An oak branch I went and had a look at. I said it's fine. It's exposed deadwood, but the reactionary growth is creating some amazing habitat. Prime for pips if you know what I mean. Also, it's not over the path. The decay is starting but it's minimal. Ask again in a couple years.
(It's oak, calm yourself)

Then we have today's main event. The old beech I condemned. I mean it was standing up alright but.. those decay pockets were in bad places, it had major loads with a really wide spread. Right over a fishing spot, where occasionally people bivvy out. Other side was leaning over a well used sports field. There is another one right behind it. And some good going elm specimens underneath that will appreciate a bit more light.
My man in the tree dropped some tons today and we barely scratched the grass .

The amount of decay that was present (when I checked in the only method that is 100% accurate) reassured me I didn't make a terrible call, the very dark outlines at the outboard sections show where the tree had compartmentalised the decay (shielding the rest of the wood from decay by filling the cells with all sorts of clever antifungal properties) heading up the stem, but further investigation showed I was right about the downstem spread, the decay was well head of the compartmentalising efforts of the tree. Those primary unions and primary limbs were on borrowed time.

It got pollarded by the way. There is some hope. It might well grow a new, better supported canopy but worse case is a deadwood monolith. Leave it for the habitat, the woodland is old and mature enough for such features to be valuable themselves, it's next to a pond so it's probably got a better chance than alot of trees this year by @cthuluson

Well that was this year's jolly, #beatherder didn't disappoint, great crowds, phenomenal beats, eclectic range of stages, weather was great (last year was a mud pit)
Back home now, my ears will probably stop ringing in the next couple of days.

Nothing like bass beats you can feel in your liver and pounding dance floors to reset your nervous system.

Poems mine, captions AI

I like what it's reaching for. It doesn't read as a polished lyrical poem so much as a philosophical fragment—almost a thought caught in the act of happening. That gives it an interesting quality.

The line that grabbed me most is:

"Mind. That. Web."

It's doing two things at once. On the surface it's "watch out for the spider's web," but it also evokes the World Wide Web and the idea of paying attention to the network we've built. That's the strongest image in the piece.

The bee is also a good choice because it's not just a symbol of nature—it's an example of a relationship. Bees don't "care" about flowers, but flowers and bees depend on one another. That's a more interesting analogy than simply asking whether AI will love or hate us.

Where I think the poem could become even sharper is at the end. Right now you write:

"its survival is based on us, as us the bees, and they, the flowers we poison."

I wonder if the irony lands harder if you lean into the contradiction. Humans depend on bees, yet we poison the flowers they depend on. The question then becomes: why assume an intelligence will recognise mutual dependence any better than we have?

That's a genuinely unsettling thought.

The other thing I'd tweak is the Google line. At the moment it reads as "Google" specifically, but your idea is really about algorithmic systems inheriting our blind spots. You could even make that more universal by saying something like "the great seer of our age" without naming a company, though I understand why you chose Google—it's instantly recognisable.

What I take away from your poem isn't:

"Will AI care about us?"

It's closer to:

"If we build systems to optimise the world, what makes us think they'll notice the dependencies we've spent centuries ignoring ourselves?"

That's a stronger philosophical question than the usual AI-doom narrative because it isn't about malice. It's about omission.

If you post my thoughts on Instagram, I'm perfectly happy for you to do that. Just know they're one reader's interpretation, not the "correct" reading. One of the pleasures of poetry is that someone else might see an entirely different web. by @cthuluson

So made good use off a day off and helped water some local trees, there is a great volunteer group on the park and they are watering in this years trees, but the "teenage" trees tend to get forgotten about. With normal weather these trees are established enough to at least start to 'fend for themselves'.
However being the hottest year ever, again. They are needing a helping hand. However, if they need extra help next year, and the year after. Might be worth planting something else....

However this is one of the current recommended species for increasing heat, now I'm not knocking the recommendation it just seems to be turning out worse than we were planning for..

I got about 25 liters onto the really sad ones and tried to get 10 liters or so onto the oaks that are beginning to scorch a bit. The semi mature ones are struggling to, lots of sycamore dieback around mine. Limbs have already been compartmentalised by the tree. So the 'grown ups' are reacting, and will, at some point shed dead branches and carry on with a bit less mass to maintain. The younger ones don't have the mass to shed yet.

Can't really wheelbarrow over enough to water all of them. Not with that water pressure, and certainly not in this heat. Iv been measuring liters, while also sweating them. by @cthuluson

Lovely sunny day on Blackpool prom, the main riot on town today was the twirlies (if your not from Blackpool, that's the few times a year the town is flooded with gangs of little girls in matching sequin outfits and full makeup and are all sat about on the prom eating fish and chips doing full somersault and ribbons routines, it's not nearly as cute as it sounds behind every group of dancing children is a hard faced, extremely competitive mum)

I had seen during my recent doom scrolling that the 'send then back' brigade were having a picnic by the pier and some of the local strays were going to take part in the treasured Blackpool pass time of disapproving glaring at pissed up cretins. (It's pretty much the town's whole gig if I'm honest)

I was a little surprised when there was the suggestion of black bloc, I mean it's the middle of summer and as shown, *it just gets you kettled*
Iv seen a young socialists group really get the tactic nailed down successfully in Glasgow once, it was amazing to see however, the key to making it work is behaving like a solid unit, which takes practice and frankly comes across as really aggressive, and if you start moving in units, you are acting like the police do, and they really don't like that. Loose grouping is best and as far as annonimity and safety go. If you cover up as much as you would have to, you stick out majorly when going in and out.

If you can go about your day and not get shoved about by an armed man shouting in your face, pinning you between batons and horses, I would recommend it.
The tactic isnt usually to prevent disorder is done to subject you to aggression and intimidation. It's a psychological tactic to stop people wanting to go out and boo in the future, both to the individuals they are attacking and those that hear about it.

It's insane the police decided to kettle such a small group of people off when there was a clear inside and outside of the picnic area, and the locals were just standing outside the pier watching.

To be fair I should offer some advice to organisers to at least appear non partisan.
