Happy Birthday to my wife beautiful wife!!!! 😛😛😛😛 Before she’s anything to me, she’s a woman who answered the call. The community knows her as an advocate. Her clients know her as relentless. Her students know her as tough but fair Professor. And if we’re being honest… that briefcase doesn’t always stay at the office. Now and then, the litigator comes home too. 😂 But I’ve learned that’s not something she can take off. Justice isn’t just what she does—it’s who she is. That same passion that fights for others is the same passion that covers our home. I’ve watched her carry us through difficult seasons with grit, grace, and an unwavering faith in God that refuses to quit. Even when life wasn’t picture-perfect, she kept showing up. And then there’s the part the world doesn’t get to see. I get to call her my wife. Loving a woman like this will keep your ego on a fitness plan. She celebrates me, but she’ll also hold me accountable. Sometimes that’s exactly what I need, even when it’s not exactly what I want. The pursuit of loving her well has challenged me to become a better man, a better husband, and a better father. Happy Birthday to my forever girlfriend. Thank you for choosing us every day. Nine years ago, I lost my best friend, John. That day, I missed his call. Later, in my brand-new empty apartment on an air mattress, I got the call—John was gone. I called his phone, and his father confirmed the unimaginable. I made it through the funeral, caring for others, but afterward, I fell into an unrecognized, undiagnosed depression—irrational decisions, withdrawing, and only posting about John. Over the last 9 years, I learned that burying myself in career achievements isn’t coping—it’s avoidance. Real healing is finding community, healthy coping mechanisms, and feeling safe enough to express one’s need for support. Today, I ran for John—2.6 miles in his honor at my best time since I started running, so I know I had some help from my boy who cheered on every one of my wins, even the small ones. Never competing, always complimentary, always pushing me forward, telling me to learn new tech, expand my thinking. John was a Renaissance techie, before AI. I can’t even imagine what he would be like in the ChatGPT era; the flyers would be nuts. But more than that, I share this: be there for someone. There’s no shame in talking—to a friend, a loved one, or a therapist. Strength isn’t solitude; it’s solidarity. But we must also let people in. I’ve learned this in these nine years—mental health matters. It's IG, so I can actually play the soundtrack to these moments. I miss you bro. Jetlife🥹. Happy birthday to the one and only Yvonne Nichols Sims! Everyone in the city knows the impact you’ve had on so many lives, but to Khloe, you’re just Grandma. To Khalida, you’re simply Mom. And to me, you’re the ‘Ma’ I’m so thankful to have gained.
