KWAME ADUSEI’s love letter to his community.

For Kwame Adusei, fashion is not about chasing what is hot. It is about the fabrics, comfort, the community that puts on the clothes and longevity.

In his interview with CTRL+ALT+SYNC Magazine, @iamkwameadusei speaks on winning a Sustainability Fashion Award, the responsibility of community, originality, the business of fashion, and why young creatives should stop waiting for perfect conditions to begin.

“People talk about community but are not actually about that life. But to me, it’s a privilege to be burdened by community.”

Are you actually choosing what you like, or are you just choosing from whatever your feed keeps putting in front of you?

Somewhere inside the algorithm feedback loop of “Watch, Save, Share”, familiarity can start looking a lot like personal taste.

“Anti-War Global Economics.”

For AWGE SS27, A$AP Rocky brings his politics into the clothes and we love seeing him take a stand on something. Oil-effect outerwear and oil-barrel shaped bags reference the valuable natural resources behind global conflict.

@fashionroadman interview also highlights the connection of the show and the collection to the history of Black American artist from Harlem finding a creative home in Paris after World War II.

Stills from ORFEU NEGRO (BLACK ORPHEUS, 1959)

Greek mythology probably wasn’t the first thing you thought of looking at these, but the film reimagines Orpheus and Eurydice through Black characters, right at the center of Carnival in Rio de Janeiro.

What’s fascinating is how the drama of the myth fits into this setting. The film brings classical theatre into conversation with Brazilian culture. Love, jealousy and fate unfold alongside the music and celebration, with footage of Rio’s actual Carnival woven into the staged scenes. There’s so much happening beyond the romance.

Black Orpheus also helped bring Bossa Nova to international audiences. And neither lead was an experienced screen actor: Marpessa Dawn was an American singer and dancer, and Breno Mello was a Brazilian footballer.

Still amazed that this came out in 1959 tbh. Any Black Orpheus fans on the tl?
