We’re online! 💥 Go to ctrlx.world (link in bio) to read our latest articles and subscribe to our monthly newsletter, GLITCHING OUT.

We’re turning our journalistic lenses back on the crumbling infrastructure of the industry itself, and scrutinizing failing systems as they fall apart in slow motion. It’s cringe, but we’re chill about it, because what comes next will be better than ever before. We know because we’re building it.

Expect deep dives into the technology fueling publishing efforts — good, bad, and ugly — analysis of trends shaping the future of media, and provocative opinions on where the industry is headed. And of course, updates on what we’re developing.

Hack the planet!!!

🌍🧱 How Decentralization Prevents Digital Disasters | Arikia Millikan @ TEDxBerlin

What happens when years of vital work disappear with a single corporate decision?

After leading a collaborative effort to document Haiti’s post-earthquake recovery, journalist Arikia Millikan witnessed firsthand how fragile centralized digital systems can be — watching critical stories vanish overnight. That moment launched a mission to rethink how we store and protect digital knowledge. In this gripping TEDxBerlin talk, she introduces her vision for “internet rebar”: a blockchain-based publishing infrastructure designed to preserve journalism against political pressure, platform failure, and digital decay.

A powerful call to decentralize before more history is lost.

The current content licensing system of the web2 media industry isn’t just broken, it’s actively hostile to creators. There’s the lengthy contract negotiations, opaque terms, delayed payments, and zero transparency about content usage. It’s a system designed for the pre-internet era, desperately hanging on while creators suffer.

CTRL+X isn’t trying to patch a broken system. We are building an entirely new one!

We’re thrilled to welcome Arikia Millikan to the TEDxBerlin stage!

A digital publishing disruptor and relentless advocate for creator rights, Arikia is the founder of (@ctrl_x.world ) CTRL+X—a Berlin-based initiative reimagining media infrastructure for the digital age. Her work lives at the powerful crossroads of journalism, technology, and digital preservation.

Arikia began her career as a science journalist and quickly made waves, becoming the youngest editor at WIRED, where she led boundary-pushing community journalism efforts like Haiti Rewired. She went on to found LadyBits, a feminist publishing collective that reached millions, and her writing has appeared in The Atlantic, VICE, National Geographic, and The Verge.

Today, she’s on a mission: to build resilient, creator-first publishing systems that ensure our digital knowledge survives beyond the platforms that host it.

With past appearances at DEFCON, re:publica, and MyData, Arikia brings sharp insight, bold vision, and a deep sense of purpose to every stage she steps on.

🗓️ Don’t miss her talk at TEDxBerlin—where ideas for the future of media take center stage.
