A heartfelt thank you to Paws on Dufferin for having the CTVRC team at this past weekend's event. It was a pleasure connecting with so many pet lovers, meeting new families, and catching up with some of our amazing patients.

One of the highlights of our day was seeing Rudy stop by to say hello. Rudy is currently undergoing oncology treatment with our Dr. Bernstein and team, and seeing him happy, smiling, and enjoying the day with his family was a wonderful reminder of why we do what we do. We couldn't be prouder of how well he's doing, and we're honored to be part of his journey.

A common misconception is that surgery should only be considered when every other option has failed. In reality, there are many conditions where early surgical intervention provides the best

outcome. For example, orthopedic injuries and dental concerns. Certain gastrointestinal conditions and some tumors often respond best when addressed promptly via surgery. Waiting to pursue surgery too long can sometimes allow the condition to worsen or lead to additional complications which is harder on your companion.

Remember that when surgery is recommended, the goal is to resolve the underlying issue and improve long term quality of life for your friend. by @ctvrec

A sudden change in behaviour is one of the earliest signs that something is wrong. Restlessness, hiding, aggression, confusion, or unusual vocalization can all be signs of pain or underlying medical issues.

These changes may be linked to neurological disease, toxin exposure, trauma, metabolic disorders, or other internal illness.

Since our companions cannot tell us when something hurts or that they feel unwell, we need to be alert to their behaviour.

If something changes that you cannot explain, it’s important to consult your veterinarian, and if urgent, seek emergency care. by @ctvrec

As the weather warms up, emergency visits tend to increase. More outdoor activity means more exposure to hazards that can lead to sudden illness or injury.

Some of the most common spring emergencies include trauma from slips or falls, ingestion of toxins such as fertilizers or plants, gastrointestinal upset from scavenging, and bite wounds from wildlife encounters.

If your companion suddenly becomes lethargic, vomits repeatedly, shows signs of pain, or has trouble walking, it is best to seek veterinary care right away. Acting early can make a significant difference in outcomes.

At home, it is important to follow medication instructions closely, restrict activity when recommended, and monitor for changes such as decreased appetite, restlessness, or vocalization.
