Cuban-Americans in the Olympics:

⚾ Eddy Alvarez @eddyalvarez90 - US flag bearer and Baseball, next game is against the Dominican Republic starting at 11pm EST tonight.

🤺 Yessier Ramirez @the_blackzorro - Epee Fencing, Individual (30th) and team (9th). Yessier learned to fence epee barefoot in Guantanamo Bay and is the first Cuban born American to compete for team USA.

🥋 Ariel Torres @arielkarate1 - Men's Kata, Karate. Competing starting this Friday 6 Aug.

🥋 Angelica Delgado @juji_angie - Judo, Women's 52kg. Reached the round of 16 last weekend after winning her first round against Joana Ramos of Portugal.

⚾ Nick Martinez @nickmartinez22 - Baseball. Nick pitched a winning game this week over South Korea to move USA baseball to 2-0. He currently pitches for Fukuoka in Japan, and has previously played for the Texas Rangers and, more importantly, Belen Jesuit.

It's been great watching these amazing athletes in the opening ceremonies and the first two weeks of the Olympics. Best of luck to Eddy and Ariel as they compete in the final week!! by @cuba.one

Abraham Jiménez Enoa (@jimenezenoa) is a Cuban journalist. He graduated in Journalism from the University of Havana and co-founded the first Cuban online magazine dedicated to narrative journalism, El Estornudo.

He has been the primary voice of @mov_sanisidro in the U.S., bringing a powerful and insightful voice from inside Cuba to the U.S. as a columnist for @washingtonpost. Over the past three weeks, his articles and interviews have appeared in the New York Times, El Pais, NPR, and others, helping to bring the world's attention to #11J

Last October he was arrested, interrogated and threatened following the hunger strikes in San Isidro “They told me that if I publish in The Washington Post they will prosecute me for usurpation of functions, because the outlet is not accredited in Cuba, that they will start a war against my family and my relatives.”

Many of those that participated in the hunger strikes last October were detained following 11J and remain jailed in some of Cuba's highest security prisons. by @cuba.one

Humanitarian aid from Mexico, Russia and an international effort led by U.S. based Global Health Partners has arrived in Cuba over the last two weeks. Enough syringes to vaccinate all Cubans by the end of 2021, medical equipment, food and two oil tankers have arrived or will arrive shortly. The international community is stepping up on humanitarian aid.

We asked our community to tell us how they've successfully sent support to their family in Cuba over the last few weeks. Here are companies allowing U.S. family members to send food, packages and money to their family right now.

Food delivery 🛒💊🍳
- Super Market 23 (@supermarket.23), the most commonly cited way to help was this site, availability by type of good and province can be limited, but food, basic goods and even medicine can be delivered directly to your family here
- Mandao (@mandao) this app connects small business and farms to households in Cuba, which can be ordered from the U.S.
- Cuballama (@cuballama_oficial) similar to both of the options above, grocery, medicine and restaurant ordering from the US

Shipments (best option for medicines) 📦💊
- CubaLlama - Bring your packages to CubaLlama stores in the US for shipment to Cuba. $9.99 per pound and 50% discount for medicine
- Caribe Agencia Express - We heard from some that they had used this option previously, but it has not been confirmed over the last two weeks

Monetary remittances 💸
Electronic remittances have ceased from the U.S., but a couple of companies are finding a way (through Mulas or resolver?)
- Tropipay (@tropipay) - A Spanish remittance company that Americans have used to send electronic remittances to Cuba
- BitRemesas (@bit.remesas) - CUP delivered remittances sent via cryptocurrencies
- Duales (@dualesinc) - electronic remittances for Canadians, or those with access to a Canadian
- Domicilio Havana (@domicilio_havana) - Contact through Whatsapp via their website
- CubaMax - Unsure how this is being done currently through CubaMax, but has been confirmed

Phone recharges 📱
- Cuballama (@cuballama_oficial) - Recharge cell phones and nauta wifi cards from their website
- DimeCuba @dimecuba - may also offer shipping services

What is Cuba like two weeks later?

Protests have largely ceased, with some notable individual or small assemblies. Much of the country is tense and policed. Abundant food has returned to stores that were empty before the protests. A meaningful portion of Cuban Instagram accounts we follow have begun posting normally again over the last day or two. International humanitarian aid has arrived from Mexico, Russia and some U.S. NGOs. International condemnation of the government response to 11 de Julio has been small, with only 21 countries signing on to a U.S. State Department letter released this week. The Internet is still somewhat restricted from day to day, with broad restrictions coming into force with any notice of people assembling. Trials and releases of 400+ people arrested have begun. A new normal is in the process of being defined, but there is still no clear path forward.
