🎉 Wrapped and done! Our Children's Financial Literacy team has just completed six weeks of empowering young minds at Coronation Primary.

During this period our trainers and volunteers taught the essentials of budgeting, saving and banking, using real-world examples grounded in the Papua New Guinea context, reaching 544 students across six classrooms. 📚💰

We couldn't be prouder of how far these students have come. And this Friday we'll be back for a special certificate presentation and celebration! 🏆

A heartfelt thank-you to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade @dfat, whose support through the Australia NGO Cooperation Program made this project possible. 🇦🇺🤝🇵🇬

Two weeks in and our PNG CFL team is on a roll! 🚀

Our trainers Michelle Magea and Jack Lapan have been working side by side with our amazing volunteers to deliver financial literacy training to around 500 Grade 6 students at Coronation Primary School. That's a lot of young minds getting hands-on with savings and budgeting basics.

We still have four weeks to go in the program and we're just getting started. The goal? Equip these young people with money habits that will stick with them for life.

AMF-Cufa is proud to support the @moresbyartstheatre, and we were honoured to be invited to speak at their annual Youth Arts Programme (YAP) today.

Running throughout August, YAP brings together Grade 9 students from across Port Moresby to explore theatre and creative education alongside community and social initiatives.

Our Lead Trainer, Michelle Magea, spoke with the students about the importance of budgeting and saving and how these skills can be truly transformational in their lives.

Thank you to the Moresby Arts Theatre for their ongoing commitment to the youth of Port Moresby. We wish everyone involved a wonderful remainder of the Youth Arts Programme.

Long Than is a financial literacy trainer who works with Satrey Phoukpal Agricultural Collective in Chikreng, Siem Reap. Supported by Simon she has delivered 5 workshops this year for # people.

Satrey Phoukpal focuses on chicken raising, cashews and cassava. While collective sales are developing, there are strong group savings practices.

This work is delivered as part of CSO4G, funded by the European Commission.

Cufa is proud to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025! This year’s theme, ‘Accelerate Action,’ perfectly aligns with our mission to promote inclusive economic growth and empowerment.

At the current pace, it could take until 2158 — about five generations — to achieve full gender parity (World Economic Forum, IWDA). This stark reality reinforces the urgency of our work.

Over the last few weeks Cufa has facilitated workshops in Honiara, Madang and Port Moresby as part of our Pacific Capacity for Growth (PC4G) Round 2 workshops.

With our new friends at 15 CSOs we covered a range of essential topics, including: business development, MEL, project completion reporting, donor engagement and social media approaches. As well as tailored 1 on 1 mentoring.

We are proud to kickstart our civil society organisation capacity building program in Port Moresby today, and are joined by 11 people from 6 organisations for our first 2-day workshop.

The Pacific Capacity for Growth program will upskill and empower CSOs in PNG and the Solomon Islands in their financial systems, GEDSI capabilities, their communications, and their ability to access funds from various donors.

We appreciate the support of @global.affairs.canada and @canadainaustralia who have funded this project through the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives.

Today, our team in Papua New Guinea celebrated the contributions of Robert Aisi, OBE to our Board, while also bidding a sad farewell due to his retirement.

Even though Robert will no longer be on the Board of Cufa, he will always be a part of our community, and will do all he can to continue supporting development in PNG.

Robert's appointment was also historic, being one of the few examples of an Australian international development organisation having a Director who is both from and based in the country where projects are being run. We hope Robert's contributions provides an example of what is possible for other Australian INGOs.

After finishing the full six weeks of our renowned Children's Financial Literacy course, we were honoured to present 632 Grade 6 and 7 students at Coronation Primary School in Port Moresby with their completion certificates.

This momentous effort would not have been possible without Cufa's standout trainers, our star volunteers, and the support of the Coronation Primary Principal, and teachers.

We also acknowledge Stephan Independent Advisory, and the @dfat who provided the funding for this project through the Australian-NGO Cooperation Program (#ANCP).

As the activities for this year's Children's Financial Literacy come to a close, we acknowledge we would not have been able to achieve such amazing results without the involvement and support of our committed volunteers.

Emily Pilai, Hayley Auro, Kyushu Sitapai, Michelle Magea, Nehmiah Dujambi, Stanley Philip, and long-time supporter Pidik Kove joined Cufa over several months, and greatly contributed to the quality and reach of our financial literacy training. In honour of this we held a special Volunteer Appreciation Day to celebrate them and their achievements!

We would also like to acknowledge @avi.org.au, who provided the grant which made this volunteer program possible.

Cufa continues to invest in the future of Children's Financial Literacy in Papua New Guinea, and recently completed a training workshop for 35 teachers from Coronation Primary School in Port Moresby.

By providing skills and knowledge to local educators within the public education system, we are ensuring the longevity and sustainability of our projects.
