/ Blues Run the Game /

Well, the best thing about traveling is that you get to return home and rediscover all that used to be familiar.

I’m discovering how much I love putting my dad’s old faded @levis jacket under @relwen Trap Blazers.

And of course, the revelation of the journey was coming home to these @redwingheritage 1907s on the road. They held right on up, five years later. Consider them very much back in the rotation.

Crazy week ahead, hosting three different events on campus, with meetings all day through Thursday. Then I head to Austin for the board meeting for an academic journal I’m on, and finally, after that, a short family getaway to an undisclosed location. I’ll disclose it eventually!

Starting off with some absolutely solid fresh pieces, all made in the USA, kindly sent over from @deviumusa :
Their Proper Lite Canvas pants, and their Raleigh L/S in Avocado.

Devium’s style fits somewhere between workwear and skate culture in a way that really works in lots of situations. These Proper Lite canvas pants are “lite” in comparison to their double-knee version, which I’m itching to try too, but they breathe and move a little more easily with one layer of 100% cotton canvas.

If I’m going to work this hard all week, I figure I should dress the part. Maybe the busy meetings will just skate on by.

Filling out the fit are boots from @thursdayboots Black Label, a hand-tooled belt from @wilkinsonofficial and my @normandirtybirds hat.

It’s time again for the @stitchdownpatinathunderdome ! It’s the craziest competition for breaking in and aging a fine pair for footwear with hundreds, yea thousands(?) of your closest boot buddies for the chance to win prizes and boot patina glory.

Common wisdom has dictated that @horweenleather Natural Chromexcel leather is one of the best leathers to age for a competition like this. It takes a licking and keeps on ticking, and changes drastically over time. Perfect for something like this.

I’d had some natural CXL loafers, and they are easily my favorite kick-around summer shoes, but never any boots in the leather. Until now.

Enter @oakstreetbootmakers We had talked last year about how much I wanted to wear their boots in the Dome, and after some talk about what would be best, they kindly sent over this beautiful pair of their Trench Boot in Natural Chromexcel. This boot had all the curves and lots of clean lines, with loads of leather to get rolling and creasing. The fit is absolutely perfect for me true to size, and the break in hasn’t been too tough either. Love at first sight.

So get used to looking at these! And swipe through to see my beloved Natty CXL loafers, three years in. Here’s hoping I can approach that level of patina greatness in the months to come.

The trousers are the Proper Lite Canvas pants and the overshirt is their Raleigh Long Sleeve in Artichoke (both gifted promo items I genuinely love).

Fresh autumn threads, kindly gifted by @indigosea_garmentfactory

I’ve had my eye on M-51 Fishtail parkas for a few years, and this one ticks all the boxes. It’s generous in cut, feels technical without being overworked, and the little details are excellent. A little bit of stretch in the fabric makes it feel resilient too.

These buckle back salt-and-pepper dungarees though, wow! Excellent 11.5 oz. fabric that feels far more substantial, and a beautiful weave that I keep gazing at, trying to figure out how they do it. The stripes are something fun I’m wanting to do more of, and the high waisted, straight leg cut works really well with engineer boots.

What’s wildest is that @indigosea_garmentfactory makes all these garments at a considerably lower price than other Repro makers, so you can try some pieces a little outside your norm without feeling a huge risk factor.

Paired with @redwingheritage Engineers and a trusty old Levi’s Sawtooth in Cone Denim.

I’m leaning heavily into the cool autumn in Wisconsin right now. Leather jackets, like this one from @ruggedwestco ), matching boots (these prev gifted but very loved by @bordonhandmadeboots ), and some vintage Polo Tweed trousers and all the OCBDs I can wear. This one from @taylorstitch never lets me down.
