The Columbia University Programs in Physical Therapy are proud to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary generosity of Julie and Israel Lowy, whose transformative gift of $100,000 establishes the Columbia Physical Therapy Faculty Practice Gift Fund and strengthens our mission to advance clinical innovation, research, education, and patient care.As a grateful patient, Julie Lowy experienced firsthand the profound impact that exceptional physical therapy can have on a person's recovery, mobility, independence, and quality of life. Inspired by her own journey and the care she received, Julie and Israel chose to invest in the future of physical therapy at Columbia, helping to ensure that current and future patients have access to the highest level of rehabilitative care.Their generosity will support innovative clinical programs and research initiatives within the faculty practice, enabling our clinical faculty to develop and evaluate new approaches to care, advance evidence-based rehabilitation, and translate discoveries into meaningful improvements in patient outcomes. The Lowy gift will strengthen our educational mission by supporting the clinical mentorship and development of both our Doctor of Physical Therapy students and orthopedic physical therapy residents. Through immersive, hands-on learning experiences, guided by expert clinician-educators, future physical therapists will be better prepared to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care, and lead the profession forward. At Columbia, we believe that excellence in patient care, research, and education are inseparable. The Lowy family's generosity will help us continue to transform, educate future leaders, and improve the lives of countless patients and families. We are deeply grateful to Julie and Israel for their partnership, vision, and commitment to advancing the future of physical therapy. by @cuimcpt

Thank you to all of our students and alumni who joined us to celebrate Dr. Michael Johnson and help make his clap-out so special. It was an incredible moment for an incredible person. While Dr. J still has a few more weeks with us, last Thursday marked his final day teaching in our program.Favorite Dr. J story (Jason): When I started here, Dr. J was the first person I ever took a picture of. It was for a Veterans Day post. Dr. J immediately came up to me and said, “Let’s do this”.I remember thinking, “This is going to be great, people here must love taking photos”. Little did I know that I would spend the next three years trying to get a decent photo of him. It was the first and only time he didn’t give me a hard time about taking his picture. We are all going to miss you, Dr. J. Thank you for everything you have given to our students, alumni, faculty, and program. by @cuimcpt

An exciting first for the Programs in Physical Therapy! Our Class of 2028 will be the first cohort in our program to use the Mary & Michael Jaharis Simulation Center at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Through one-on-one encounters with patient actors, students will practice essential clinical communication and examination skills in a realistic setting. Each session is recorded, giving students the opportunity to review their own interactions, reflect on their performance, and strengthen their skills for future patient care. by @cuimcpt
