Three very different birds, three very different moods 🐦

A little egret with lunch still in its beak, a parakeet lit up against a deep blue sky, and a woodpecker caught as the sun had almost set.

Things I’ve shot with the Sony A7R V + Sigma 24-70 📸

One camera, one lens, a lot of very different places. Misty landscapes in Vietnam, jets over Welsh valleys, The Storr in Skye, a very unimpressed highland cow.

Same gear the whole way through — just pointed at whatever stopped me in my tracks.

Majestic until they stick their tongue out 😋🐮

Highland cows are an easy favourite for a reason — equal parts majestic and ridiculous, often in the same five seconds.

Still though, they are one of my favourite subjects to photograph, just wish there was more of them around!!

A morning spent in the Welsh valleys waiting for fast jets to drop below the ridgeline. When it happens, you’ve only got a few seconds to get the shot.

Kept this set black and white — felt right for the drama of it.

One of the things I remember most about Vietnam is just how much was happening around me… everyone always seemed to be doing something. I got the sense that people were happy and fulfilled, and I loved this.

Walking through the streets, sitting in cafes, wandering through markets or grabbing some food… there always seemed to be something going on around me.

I enjoyed trying to capture those little moments as they happened. Some were completely unplanned, some I had a little more time to work with, but they all give me a little reminder of what it felt like being there. When I look at these photos the feeling of being in Vietnam always comes back to me.

Through my lens at 800mm 🔭

I love this lens… it truly does what it says on the tin. My captures of a Roe deer, an Eurasian Linnet, a very content sheep, and a highland coo who’d rather nap than pose 👀. All captured at the far end of what the Sony 400-800G can reach.

It’s the reason I can sit back and let wildlife just be wildlife…

What’s stopped you getting closer to a shot you wanted — distance, gear, or just the animal being stubborn and not playing ball!?

Forgotten - Isle of Lewis… There’s something about abandoned buildings which stops me every time.

Weathered stone, collapsed roofs, decades of stories left unknown. It’s unsettling to me but also picturesque. These exist in abundance up and down the UK and I always wonder what used to have been.

A moment with a Grey Heron captured at 800mm 🪶📸

I spotted this Grey Heron working its way through the water and managed to catch a few moments as it hunted for its next meal. I watched the Heron for a while, it’s crazy interesting to see how insanely still they are before launching in at their prey!

The reflection in the still water and the way the bird was almost perfectly mirrored made this feel a little different from my usual wildlife photos… Hence a bit of a different editing style.

It was a great moment, I hope to experience more like this in the future!

Sometimes when I go for walks with my camera I get disappointed when there isn’t a conventionally perfect photograph such as a bird perched on an exposed stick, or a plane doing an insane manoeuvre…

I’m learning to realise that smaller wildlife can be just as beautiful and just as awesome!I I hope you enjoy my photos of a Peacock butterfly, Red Admiral and a Damselfly 📸🦋

Slightly different style to my normal posts… however, I wanted to try something different here.

This Buzzard was really far away… I was zoomed in at 800mm in landscape and have cropped this to 3:4, and the bird is still tiny 😂. One day I’ll get close enough to see its details but for now, I feel like I have captured something I’m still happy with.

Heat haze is no joke… you can see in the final video where I’ve cropped in and stabilised it, all that noise/mess moving around is the heat haze.
