When you extract absurdism from Camus’ The Stranger, you go into a box of no meaning(last photo).

…no Schrodinger pun intended.

Some books entertain you. And some quietly change how you think.

This stack has done the latter for me: Camus, Kafka, Sartre, Vonnegut, Rachel Carson, García Márquez, and Bertrand Russell. Different voices, different eras, but all asking uncomfortable questions about meaning, power, responsibility, and how we choose to live.

Which one speaks to you? Or…where would you begin?

Some books you read once. Some you keep rebuying because the cover gets you every time.

A few of my favorite vintage Camus paperback cover designs. There’s something about mid-century paperback design that seemed to understand the text itself.

Which one would you take home?

Camus at Combat (1944–1947) captures his time as editor of the French Resistance newspaper Combat, where he wrote against Nazism, authoritarianism, and unchecked capitalism.

It’s Albert Camus at his most political. Still hits today.

Some awesome literary shirts inspired by a few of our favorite vintage paperback books are live on our Etsy store(link in bio). We are in the process of expanding our store and will be uploading our vast book collection as well.

Parenthood has been quite busy so it’ll be a while until we return to in-person. If you are in the mood to support a small business, we would value your patronage! Thank you for everything! And continue to let us know if there is any book you are seeking. 🤘

This was such a special place. Wish we had more time to spend. Jimbocho is known as the “Book Town” of Tokyo, home to over 150 used and rare bookstores packed into just a few blocks.

It’s been the center of Japan’s publishing world since the early 1900s.

The streets are lined with stacked outdoor shelves, and shop owners often still hand-price books by pencil. taken in Jimbocho Booktown by @cultlikelabooks

Sometimes you are sprinkled with coincidental subtleties to reset and revisit. The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus was calling.

Last night, we watched the 1981 film, My Dinner with Andre. There was a prevalent theme of the absurd in the dialogue…We live our lives asleep until we are ready to metaphysically revolt, the core of Camus’ assertion.
We also just started the Fargo series, season 2. A character named Noreen reads The Myth of Sisyphus while she works at the butcher shop(see last image).

Was I free to make the choice to revisit The Myth of Sisyphus, or has the concept of fate led me here? Whatever it is, I am enjoying the time off due to an amazing life event(unannounced for now), where I have set up my reading quarters complimented by the rainy weather.

This Saturday @goodtime.lb we will be giving a portion of book sales to the charity @aneraorg more specifically for Gaza and West Bank relief.

We have found that Anera has one of the highest dollar impact. This means that if you donate $100 to Anera, about $92 goes straight to food, medicine, and relief on the ground.

Consider stopping by our booth, having some discourse, or even buying a book. We know many of us feel the weight of the moral guilt, wanting to do much more to play an effective part. Remember that we cannot go it alone. Small acts compound and it’s important that they are done, regardless of the immediate effect. Thank you! taken in Long Beach, California by @cultlikelabooks
