Last year in August we lost our house cat and home security officer - Gus Grimly. We adopted him from a eccentric lady in Jamul when he was 8 weeks old and he was our loyal companion for 11 years and the best early warning system you could ever ask for. It was a profound loss for me and Carol Culver when he passed.

The staff at SWA knows that my wife and I love art and all types of paintings and sculptures. After Gus passed, they got together and bought us a gift certificate for one of our favorite pacific NW artists - Penny Forrest. We sat on the gift certificate for almost a year and as the one year anniversary of Gus' passing approaches we decided to apply that gift certificate to a new painting for our master bedroom to go with the other five pieces we have in that room created by Penny.

Here are some photos of the new painting and a painting of Gus that a family member gave us last Christmas.

Thank you to our wonderful staff at SWA for this gift! We will treasure it always in remembrance of Gus. by @culverbenjamin

Fountain cleaning day yesterday! Took about three hours to dismantle and drain it and then clean and rebuild. Good outside work on the sun! Feel's good that summer is almost upon us. Had to take out a dying plant and check the irrigation. Replacing that plant this week when I get some time. by @culverbenjamin

Two new additions for the Culver San Diego house art collection arrived yesterday. Hung them both and commissioning a third new piece to complete the wall. Artist is Jed Bowker. Lives in Palm Desert and paints that environment. He is quite the character. Going to have to move the Jeffrey Hull we bought last year to the dining room. Getting new art always causes movement of existing art and it's a pain! by @culverbenjamin

Grandchild number five of six napping in her stroller yesterday while Grammy Carol Culver stands watch. I'm struck by the pure innocence of starting life as a human and that is something that is very special. As we age we seem to get more busy with life and that innocence fades until it's gone and is gradually replaced with work, responsibility and constant doing. Until then, enjoy the innocence young Jolene. You will have a beautiful life! by @culverbenjamin

Bathroom reconstruction started this morning. So loud in the house. Jackhammering out the hard wood floor after the leak we had six hours after closing the sale of our business on Aprl 8th! Juggling more things right now than ever before. Should calm down by end of July. by @culverbenjamin

The back way drive from SD to Palm Springs is pretty crazy but fun in the new M5. Stopped at an overlook above the valley and a coyote was just staring over a wall at us. Looking for food and water I suspect. Was a young one and looked previously wounded. You can see him in the upper right corner of the last picture. by @culverbenjamin

Carol made me buy myself a celebration toy on Saturday for closing the sale of 90% of SWA to Heico Corporation. It's a beast! Lady's first though, I bought her a new wedding ring first! I don't feel too bad about buying the car. I now own a real life batmobile. I have been denying myself material things for a long time until I reached this goal. Now, back to work! Opportunity waits for no man. by @culverbenjamin
