Our last senior salute of the year goes to Brigid Zhu. Brigid is a two-year member of the team, fencing foil. As a junior fencing JV, she won three medals, finishing 8th at the DHP Open, 6th at the Stevenson Open, and getting the bronze at the Culver Midwest Open. Stepping up to varsity as a senior, she finished 14th at the Stevenson Open, 13th at the Culver Midwest Open, and 11th at Varsity Conference Championships. As a member of the women's foil squad, she was part of one conference squad championship and one runner-up performance as well one overall conference championship and one second-place finish for CGA. Brigid always brought a positive attitude and a strong and meticulous work ethic to the fencing gym. We wish her the best of luck as she heads off to Purdue University, where she will major in Agricultural Engineering and may continue fencing! #fencing #foil #cga #culveracademies by @culverfencing

Our next senior salute goes to Graham Young. Graham is a four-year member of the team, fencing foil. As a freshman, he finished in 19th out of forty-two fencers at the Culver Midwest Open and 30th out of sixty-four fencers at the JV Conference Championships. As a sophomore, he won his first medal, finishing in sixth place at the JV Foil event at the Culver Midwest Open. His senior year, in the Varsity Foil event at the same tournament he finished 13th out of thirty-one fencers. As a member of the men's foil squad, he was part of four conference squad championships, as well one overall conference championship, one second-place finish, and two third-place finishes for CMA. Graham brought a calm and joyful demeanor to the fencing gym every day and always maintained an even attitude on the strip. Our next senior salute goes to Michael Williams. Michael is a four-year member of the team, fencing epee. His freshman year, he finished 11th at the Culver Midwest Open and ended the season with a 22nd-place finish out of sixty two fencers at JV Conference Championships. Over the next three years he won four medals, finishing 6th at the 2023 Culver Midwest Open, 5th at the 2024 JV Conference Championships, 8th at the 2024 LVH Open, and winning the bronze at the 2024 Stevenson Open. In his final tournament, he finished in 18th place out of fifty three fencers at the 2026 Varsity Conference Championships. As a member of the men's epee squad, he was part of one silver medal finish, as well one overall conference championship, one second-place finish, and two third-place finishes for CMA. Michael is a driven competitor and was always one of the most dependable fencers at practice and at meets. Today’s senior salute goes to Gloria Wang. Gloria is a four-year member of the team, fencing saber. Gloria completed a highly decorated career at Culver, earning gold in all ten varsity events in which she participated, including four Varsity Conference Championships, going a remarkable 97-0 in varsity bouts over her four years. At the prep level, she medaled in nineteen regional events at the Div IA, Div 2, Junior, and Cadet levels, with seven gold medals. In 2024 she won a national championship at the Div 2 Women’s Saber event at Summer Nationals. At the 2026 Junior Olympics she also earned gold in the Junior Team Women’s Saber Event. At this year’s February NAC in Cincinnati, Ohio, she finished 34th out of 172 fencers in the Div I event, following that up at the April NAC with a 30th place finish in the same event. As a member of the women's saber squad, she was part of four squad titles at conference team championships as well two overall conference championships and two second-place finishes for CGA. Gloria served as a great leader in her role as saber captain for three years, teaching and supporting her teammates both at practice and at tournaments. We wish Gloria the best of luck as she heads off to the University of Notre Dame, where she plans to major in Neuroscience and Behavior and will be fencing for the two-time defending national champion Fighting Irish! #fencing #saber #cga #culveracademies by @culverfencing

Our next senior salute goes to Jacqueline Su. Jacqueline is a four-year member of the team, fencing epee. Her first year, she finished 25th at the Culver Midwest Open and 27th at JV Conference Championships, improving to a bronze at the Culver Midwest Open and 15th at JV Conference Championships her sophomore year. Stepping up to varsity her junior year, she earned her first medal, finishing 7th at the Culver Midwest Open. Her senior year she medaled three times, finishing in 8th at the LVH Open, Stevenson Open, and Culver Midwest Open. As a member of the women's epee squad, she was part of one silver medal and one bronze medal at conference team championships as well two overall conference championships and two second-place finishes for CGA. Jacqueline was a diligent competitor, who worked hard to improve and always had a kind and respectful attitude. Our next senior salute goes to Mallory Schurz. Mallory is a four-year member of the team, fencing epee. As a sophomore, she finished 19th at the Culver Midwest Open. As a sophomore, she improved to 9th place at the same tournament and finished her season with a 21st place finish at JV Conference Championships. While her devotion to theater limited her competitive involvement during her junior and senior years, she continued to be active in practice, working to improve her own skills as well as those of her squadmates. As a member of the women's epee squad, she was part of one silver medal and one bronze medal at conference team championships as well two overall conference championships and two second-place finishes for CGA. We will remember her for her kindness and the respect she had for her teammates and coaches. Our next senior salute goes to Andrea Sayson. Andrea is a three-year member of the team, fencing saber. As a sophomore, she earned a silver medal at the DHP Open, in addition to golds at the prep level in the Junior Saber events at the Midwest ROC and Windy City ROC. As a junior, she earned a bronze at the Stevenson Open in addition to an 86th place finish out of 178 fencers in the Div I Saber event at the Junior Olympics. As a senior she earned silver medals in two events at the GRAFA Third Coast Cup and finished in the top-100 out of 215 fencers in the Div I event at the November North American Cup in Fort Worth, Texas. As a member of the women's saber squad, she was part of three squad titles at conference team championships as well two overall conference championships and one second-place finish for CGA. Andrea was always a kind and supportive teammate, teaching and coaching her squadmates as one of the saber captains her senior year. Our next senior salute goes to Meaghan Rafferty. Meaghan is a three-year member of the team, fencing saber. In her career at Culver, she never finished lower than 10th at an individual meet, racking up nine individual medals. Her sophomore year, she finished 8th at the Culver Midwest Open and 5th at the JV Conference Championships. As a junior, she earned her first bronze medal at the Stevenson Open and finished her JV career with a runner-up finish at JV Conference Championships. Stepping up to varsity as a senior she earned four medals, including a bronze at the Culver Midwest Open and a 6th-place finish at Varsity Conference Championships. As a member of the women's saber squad, she was part of three squad titles at conference team championships as well two overall conference championships and one second-place finish for CGA. Meaghan was a driven competitor on the strip, but still always showed respect to opponents and helped guide her younger squadmates. As a sophomore, she finished 20th at the Culver Midwest Open and finished her season with an 11th place finish at JV Conference Championships. After studying in France as a junior, she returned her senior season to claim her first individual medal, earning the bronze at the Culver Midwest Open. As a member of the women's foil squad, she was part of one conference squad championship and one runner-up performance as well as one overall conference championship and one second-place finish for CGA. We will remember Chloe for her infectious smile and her outgoing and friendly attitude. Chloe will be attending New York University, where she will major in Art History and French. As a sophomore, he finished 12th in JV epee at the Culver Midwest Open, following that up with a 12th place finish in varsity epee the next year. As a senior, he earned his first individual medal at the Stevenson Open, grabbing the bronze. As a member of the men's epee squad, he was part of one silver medal finish, as well one overall conference championship, one second-place finish, and two third-place finishes for CMA. Albert was a strong leader for his squad, being picked as squad captain his senior year, and he did an excellent job guiding his squad in practice and at meets. The next senior salute goes to Yunnie Lee. Yunnie is a three-year member of the team, fencing epee. As a sophomore, she medaled at the Culver Midwest Open, finishing 5th in JV women’s epee. She finished the season with a 12th place finish in JV Conference Championships. Her junior year she medaled in all four individual JV events in which she participated, earning golds at both the DHP and Stevenson Opens, silver at the Culver Midwest Open, and 6th at JV Conference Championships. Her senior year she earned her first medal in a varsity event with a 7th-place finish at the Culver Midwest Open and she capped off her career by winning Varsity Conference Championships. As a member of the women's epee squad, she was part of one silver medal and one bronze medal at conference team championships as well two overall conference championships and one second-place finish for CGA. We appreciated the even attitude she displayed on the strip and in the gym and the way she supported her teammates. We wish Yunnie the best of luck as she heads off to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she will major in Chemical Engineering!
