Red Mass - Volume 9 : Sparticle(s) of symmetry
@redmassmtl

Written by Louise Jaunet

ZOM ZOM ILLEGAL - GOD DIVORCES
@zomzomillegal

Written by Louise Jaunet

Si Toronto a Slash Need, Montréal a maintenant ZOM ZOM ILLEGAL

DOWN TOWN - JOY RIDER
@down.town.musics

By Louise Jaunet

WHIMM - No Promotion
@whimm_

Written by Louise Jaunet

Emily Steinwall - but, there’s beauty in the fall from Grace
@emilysteinwall

Written by Hiroki Tanaka
@hirokitanakamusic

Where Welcome to the Garden often felt like Steinwall demonstrating the full breadth of what she could construct, but, there’s beauty in the fall from Grace feels more comfortable bringing Steinwall herself into the equation. It is more ambitious in scale, yet far more personal in its lyrics and delivery, as though you’re hearing Emily as Emily for the first time.

Video Premiere: Wolf Willow - Live at Darke Hall
@wolfwillowband

Written by Jeff MacCallum @jeff.maccallum

Longtime favourites of Cups N Cakes, Wolf Willow, have gifted us the opportunity to premiere a concert film that showcases a sold out performance last November in Regina's historic Darke Hall. We are very excited for this video because it offers the chance for their fanbase outside of Saskatchewan the opportunity to watch what would have been the perfect setting for a Wolf Willow concert. The idea behind the show was to showcase the bands roots and inspiration which is the big Western Swing orchestras of the 40s and 50s playing in beautiful theatres. The evening features the ten piece band at their finest with guest appearances from Gil &Wil, Ellen Froese and Clayton Linthicum (of Kacy and Clayton).

The film was shot by Little Jack Films who is well known for his support of roots music through the Littlest Honky Tonk series and as a champion of Western Canadian Music through his film The Musical Republic of Western Canada. The video arrives as the band prepares to head out to play shows in Saskatoon (Amigos Oct 16) and Calgary  (Palomino Smokehouse Oct 17).

Take some time out of your day and hit play on this incredible performance that will transport you to another time. And as always, please check out their Bandcamp page to support the band by purchasing their music.

Premiere: The Air Contains Honey - “How To Think
@jacob_wren_writer
@adamkinner___

Written by Jeff MacCallum
@jeff.maccallum

The Air Contains Honey is a Montreal ensemble that was founded by Adam Kinner and Jacob Wren in 2018. As the duo sculpted and molded their artistic vision, the project began to grow and now has become its own small orchestra of sorts. While working on their forthcoming debut album, a small core crafted arrangements and built up melodic and harmonic parts before Kinner orchestrated the music to be played by a larger group of 19 musicians, 18 of whom also sang around a single microphone. The result is The Air Contains Honey Sings Quotes set for release through the Italian label Quindi Records on November 20th.

The album title delivers its theme with the ensemble’s debut combining professional and amateur singers repeating quotes from literature and theory luminaries such as abstract painter Agnes Martin, writer T.E. Lawrence, and poet/playwright Kathy Acker. Musically, The Air Contains Honey delve into multiple genres like spiritual-jazz, bedroom-pop, and orchestral with rich choral performances cementing their lush sound.

Today we are very excited to premiere the second single from The Air Contains Honey Sings Quotes. The song is called “How To Think” and it boasts quirky pop arrangements with gorgeous choral harmonies. Check it out below in video form or by hitting play in the Bandcamp player. After you fall in love with what you hear, be sure to hit the “Pre-Order” button in the player to support this lovely act.

The Fledge - Gatherer
@thefledgemusic

"It's been a long four year wait for Hamilton band The Fledge to follow up their debut EP but the wait is over and their first full-length will rattle your teeth and hypnotize your senses with melodic, crunchy rock that flirts with post-rock, progressive-metal, and post-hardcore."

EarthBall - Actual Earth Music Volume 3 & 4
@earthball.speaks

Written by Jeff MacCallum
@jeff.maccallum

After discovering the noise/free-jazz/psych stylings of Nanaimo’s EarthBall in 2025, I’ve been playing loads of catch-up. As great as their studio recordings are, I’ve been drawn to their live series, Actual Earth Music. Near the end of June, volumes three and four were released together. The first track was taken from a show in Geneva last year after what sounds like a scary mountain drive. You can hear the energy and understand that hours before they were ‘white-knuckling’ on their alpine descent. The second track is the true gem though as the band performed at Le Guess Who? and sound as if all five members embarked on a telepathic acid trip where for a brief moment they became one entity. Improvisational music is an insane prospect at the best of times but when you need to be reminded of the fact, one can’t help but be in total awe of this band

Reveal Yourself - love deluxe
@revealyourselfband

Written By Jeff MacCallum
@jeff.maccallum

What a wild ride! Reveal Yourself is a Vancouver duo that crafts intense art-punk. On their debut album, love deluxe, they deliver eight tracks that flirt with implosion at any moment while maintaining some semblance of catchy melodies. The energy on display is feral and the vocals are visceral, akin to noise-rock, while their chaotic and spastic arrangements are egg-punk at its finest. Every time I listen I’m entertained by new stabs and shrieks of sounds jutting out from the back of the mix. There’s a lot to take-in for such a short ride… maybe I’ll hit play again and get off at the next stop instead.

Born At Midnite - Eternal BAM Nation
@born_at_midnite

Written by Jeff MacCallum
@jeff.maccallum

While most across Canada will not know the name Born At Midnite, those in the know in Montreal have been salivating for years for the duo’s debut album to finally arrive. Eternal BAM Nation is eleven songs of perfect pop with impeccable production from musician/visual artist Amery Sandford (BBQT) and producer David Carriere (who also plays in TOPS and Marci). Seamlessly blending multiple pop-centric genres, Sandford and Carriere splice delightful beats that veer from techno to disco with arrangements and vocals that move from lush dream-pop to uplifting alt-pop. Eternal BAM Nation is as triumphant as any pop record you’ll hear this year, this coming from a pop-cynic.

La Sécurité - Bingo!

Written by Jeff MacCallum

On Bingo!, the sophomore follow-up to 2023s critically acclaimed album, Stay Safe!, La Sécurité delivers another record of bouncy art-punk that will put some extra pep-in-yr-step. I find myself in the perfect time and place right now to enjoy this release. I’m in France and I’ve been without my luggage for days thanks to British Airways. Walking down to La Poste with Bingo! in my headphones, dodging protesting students, feeling the raw energy in the air while getting La Sécurité’s danceable, off-kilter blend of egg-punk and new-wave with bilingual lyrics made the fact that La Poste only had my partner’s bag for me to pick up less of a disaster as I’ll get to have the same experience tomorrow
