berry blues ethiopa and a chocolate croissant

the weather was really nice in san antonio this weekend, wasn’t too hot to where i couldn’t order this pourover. berry blues by dak, pretty sick. the notes are grape soda, myrtle liquor, and cashew butter. really fruit forward without the tart juiciness. game back the next day for a flat white with lactose free milk, i’ve been converted (only for small dranks cuz oat milk for iced drinks rules). by @cupswitkyle

dayglow
double shot, pourover, moonrise kingdom

double shot from colombia roasted by nomad in spain. fruit forward and acidic, a bit too acidic for me. i tasted lemon and passion fruit with a candy aftertaste. i think it could be tasty in a cortado.

pourover was from ethiopia roasted by subtext in canada. first thing I noticed was a very light body, very very tea like. but definitely not under extracted. i tasted citrus/blood orange and jasmine tea (pretty much what the menu said). definitely enjoyed this coffee’s clarity and slight acidity.

moonrise kingdom was one of the 14 (das a lot) signature drinks. sweet and creative, would order again.

la cabra new york
aerobic brazilian pourover and a cortado (with whole milk… :0000)

this shop is dope, keeps a simple menu to give out the best quality coffee. the pour over was smooth and tea-like with its mouthfeel. it tasted like fruit punch candy. acidity in coffee is a great quality to me, and I feel like this extraction was perfect. the cortado was naturally sweet and tasted like condensed milk and strawberries. a great shop if you want great coffee. by @cupswitkyle

chocolate orange iced latte & black cherry espresso soda

first of all these are probably the best signature drinks i have ever had in my life. we just had coffee before this, but adria recognized the shop because we tried their amsterdam blend from trade (cool coffee subscription provider). ordered the orange chocolate latte (oat milk always) and was very impressed. their espresso pairs so well with the cocoa and the orange adds a brightness and acidity. my students used to make fun of me for adding sliced oranges to my coffee, but i’m telling you it’s a good combination. one of the best coffee drinks i’ve had. i ended up ordering the black cherry espresso soda after tasting the first drink. a light and indulgent combination of cherry cola and chocolate-y espresso. fruit flavors and coffee are the move! by @cupswitkyle

arabica coffee

espresso macchiato, spanish latte, kyoto latte (all with gOAT milk)

the macchiato is not the traditional or starbucks version, it's a 1:1 like a cortado. the espresso was sweet like vanilla and had a tart finish, kind of like a strawberry. it shined well in this small drink instead of being overpowered by milk by some cortados. the spanish latte was faintly sweet from condensed milk (i think?). it was slightly aromatic, but tasted more like a regular latte. the kyoto latte was creamier but also tasted like a regular latte. cool shop tho! by @cupswitkyle

arnold pommer, single origin double shot from brazil, citrus green tea, vanilla latte with oat

arnold pommer had coldbrew, lemonade, and pomegranate. the coldbrew was rich with cocoa flavor, it made the drink taste like those chocolate pomegranate bites. a new and interesting take on the cold brew shandy (love me a good shandy). the single origin tasted like cherries and peanuts? i felt like i was eating a bag trail mix, and that was cool. the vanilla latte was to go, just because I have been a few times and never ordered their vanilla latte. it was tasty with the right amount of sweetness. i really do think that the milk choice will make or break the latte. they went with oatly barista which is probably my favorite, followed by califia. never a let-down here @ houndstooth 🤞 by @cupswitkyle

reset specialty coffee
single origin ethiopian, calpico cooler, (and a few other espresso samples)… (cortado, tonic, and coldbrew from monday)… (pourover and coldbrew this morning)

the single origin espresso was different than anything i’ve had before. the bag smelled like something i ordered from proud mary. picked up some raspberry and floral flavors in the shot, pretty similar to when I had it in an iced pour over yesterday. (shoutout to sam for brewing in a chemex, don’t really see that anywhere lately). the calpico cooler was refreshing and not heavy on the stomach like a latte would be. it’s a cool flavor combination for matcha that i haven’t seen anywhere either. sam knows his stuff, definitely bringing something special to the coffee culture here in the valley. luv u bro 🫡 by @cupswitkyle

nerve coffee - mcallen!!!
flat white with oat, double shot, iced vanilla latte, and a chocolate chip cookie

made by the best barista @ry4n.esgu
everything was super tasty today. the double shot was balanced with a bright berry acidity and some rich cocoa flavor. the flat white was my favorite, the sweet espresso pairs very well with some lightly textured oat milk. one of my favorite shops ever is now closer to home! definitely a spot with open seating and comforting natural lighting that will make you want to stay and enjoy a good book or knock out some work. love u, nerve! @nervecoffee by @cupswitkyle

nerve coffee
paloma & iced pourover

espresso tonic with grapefruit is always refreshing on a day like today. this drink came with a grapefruit flavored tonic water that was really enjoyable. the pourover was an ethiopian which was a bit muted in flavor unfortunately. couldn’t taste much and had a thick body. maybe the nerve blend would’ve been a better option? maybe next time i’ll try it at their new mcallen spot 😋 by @cupswitkyle

pour over and iced vanilla latte (with oat!)

i think this was one of the first specialty coffee shops i tried when I started to get into coffee with ry, my sis, and my parents. my first time trying their iced vanilla latte, and I think this is the best one i’ve had here in austin. the syrup pairs so well with the grape-y and rich espresso. the pour over wasn’t available iced, but it was still tasty. it was a very smooth mouthfeel with notes of pineapple, cherry and stone fruit. it was a bright cup that I think would’ve been great iced, kind of like a tea. love this spot, love the merch too. by @cupswitkyle

bandera coffee co.
espresso tonic, matcha tonic, tri-blend pourover, vanilla latte (we were there for a while and took the lattes to go)

tonics came out first. espresso tonic was pretty nice, heavy on the tonic. it had grapefruit which is always a refreshing addition. the espresso is toasty and smokey so it contrasts the brightness of the tonic and grapefruit well. the matcha was super tasty. very similar to what I tried to make at home with junbi matcha. vanilla and lime really make this drink refreshing. pour over didn’t really shine today, tasted a bit over extracted with a dry, grapefruit finish. pretty muted in flavor in my opinion. the lattes were a good choice to finish it off. I don’t know why I choose almond milk, it really doesn’t taste anywhere as good as oat. by @cupswitkyle
